Truffles O'cleary....loving girl who wants to trust
Truffles is the BEST girl. She is so loving and wants to trust everyone.
Truffles was picked up as a stray and quickly become a staff favourite
at the pound. Within an hour of being picked up by her foster carer she
settled easily into her new place, with three other dogs, two teenage
boys and two adults - quickly loved by the whole household...she is an
absolute sweetheart and a very easy dog.
She is toilet trained, walks well on a leash, sleeps through the night,
is good with other dogs and good in the car - unless she thinks she is
being taken to the vet, in which case she shakes. She is also learning
to use the doggie door, which isn't quite there yet, but as she is a
smart cookie, we are confident it will come. She has great recall. On
walks, she sticks close and follows your lead, looking back at you for
guidance and reassurance. In general, she is a very obedient dog.
Truffles, perhaps because of her experience as a stray, can be a little
cautious of new noises and surroundings, but she is improving daily; and
within two weeks of being with her foster family, she has learned that
the world around her is not a scary place and it's ok to relax. She is
also a bit wary of strangers (especially males) and larger dogs, and can
bark a bit, with her tail wagging at the same time, as if to say: "I
don't know you and I'm a bit scared, but I really really want to be your
friend. I'm nice and I hope you are too!" It is only because she is a
bit scared, and she means no harm. The barking settles as she learns
that the dog or human is friendly. A pat, reassuring affirmation, or
even just picking her up will reassure her and it will quickly stop.
With time, patience and as her confidence grows, we think this behaviour
will subside. It is her only quirk that the foster carer has found.
She is not aggressive in the slightest. She likes other dogs and takes
comfort from her fur siblings showing her the ropes on what it's like to
live a spoilt life inside a house with a loving family. Her only flaw
is she can be a bit too greedy wanting pats and sometimes gets too close
to the other dogs in the household, but this may settle as she realises
she is getting attention. Despite this her foster siblings have
accepted her very readily.
In general, Truffles is a very funny, outgoing and friendly girl. She
loves zoomies and to roll around on her back and play with the other
doggos. But she is just as happy to lay around and sleep during the day,
waiting for her humans to come back.
She prances around on her long dainty legs, which is a hilarious
combination with her scruffy look, making the whole package simply
adorable.
As Truffles is a very sweet and adaptable dog, there are several homes
she would suit.
Ideally, there would be another dog for company and to teach her that
the world is great. She is good with everyone, including children, but
may bark a bit at the start. But she loves a pat from everyone. Truffles
is a beautiful girl, that will be a loyal and loving companion, who will
go with the flow, as long as she feels safe. The love you give will be
repaid in spades.
This girl is an absolute beauty and charms everyone she meets.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped,
wormed, and flea treated. All necessary vetwork such as dentals,
surgery, eye treatment are also carried out. We are no longer heartworm
testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If
a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.
Medical notes
Weight: 7.35kg.
Health: We are getting a physio report on Truffles as she has slightly
uneven gait but the vet believes it is just the conformation of her
legs. However, Truffles did have a pea shaped lump removed from her mammary
glands. This was malignant. This means there is a possibility of
reoccurrence so care would need to be taken to check any lumps in the
area. For more information on this, contact rescue@victoriandogrescue.org.au
Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.
