Profile and needs in a home
Meet Skip, an adorable 4-year-old Dachshund cross with a tiny stature but a heart full of love. Weighing in at just 6.5 kg, Skip might be small, but he is packed with personality. This playful little guy thrives in a quiet home environment where he can have plenty of walks and tons of cuddles.
His new owner will need to be a little bit patient as it may take him a little time to completely warm up and reveal his lively nature.
Skip is a quintessential couch companion who relishes belly rubs while you catch up on your favourite shows, and he should be allowed on the furniture for those cozy moments.
As with all of our dogs, Skip must have access inside and out of the home at all times, and sleep inside at night preferably in the bedroom which is what he is used to in his foster home.
Skip has learned the doggy door in his foster home and is now allowed free range of his foster home. His new home will be a new environment for him so his new family will have to set him up to succeed with housetraining in their environment using only reward-based training methods, advice can be given if needed.
One of the most heartwarming things about Skip is his love for companionship. He enjoys the company of another small, friendly dog or two who can share in his adventures and keep him entertained. Skip has shown a fondness for beach outings and leash-free dog parks, though he does display some timidity around larger dogs, so care does need to be given to prevent him from becoming overwhelmed in situations where there are larger dogs running around.
His ideal home would be with someone who shares a love for exploration, as he’s quite the travel enthusiast, sitting comfortably and quietly in the car, whether headed for a day out or sitting quietly at a café.
When it comes to playtime, Skip is the ultimate fetch partner and delights in chasing after balls and toys. His recall is a work in progress, but he's eager to learn, being already praised as a “good boy” during training sessions.
After a settling period, Skip has no signs of separation anxiety when left with other dogs for a few hours, proving him to be both independent and adaptable.
With a gentle and shy nature, Skip is indeed special. He is particularly fond of gentle children and loves to cuddle next to his carer's 9-year-old granddaughter, always ready to receive belly rubs and snuggles. Skip maybe suited to a home with older children provided that they were reasonably calm, gentle and respectful of animals and the home was suited in all other respects.
If you can provide a calm, loving environment with oodles of attention and another dog for him to befriend, Skip is ready to be the affectionate, cuddly companion you’ve been looking for.
If you would like to meet Skip, please provide us some details about yourself, home environment, lifestyle, your dog and other pets (if any), your family members, your daily activity level, Skip's potential alone time, home access, contingency plans for when you're away, and your ability to cover vet expenses. Plus, any other details that may assist in a successful adoption.
