About Zinnea
Meet Zinnea,
Zinnea isn’t just any dog - she’s a fun-loving, smart, and affectionate German Shepherd who’s ready to be your new best friend. Whether your home is calm and quiet or loud and busy, she’ll fit right in without missing a beat. She’s confident, social, and always excited for whatever comes next.
If you love staying active, Zinnea is the perfect dog for you. She enjoys going for walks, exploring new places, and taking on any adventure that comes her way. She’s also incredibly intelligent and thrives on training, always eager to show off her impressive list of tricks and commands. Engaging her mind is just as important as keeping her active, and she absolutely loves any challenge that makes her think.
Zinnea is happiest when she’s with her people, forming strong bonds and always wanting to be involved in whatever you’re doing. She would do best with experienced owners, especially those familiar with German Shepherds, who can keep up with her energy and intelligence. If you’re looking for a playful, affectionate, and brilliant companion, Zinnea is ready to meet you!
Ideal Home: Zinnea is best suited to live in a standalone house or on a farm/acreage, with a medium to large yard and secure fencing.
Zinnea is fine to be in the yard, but if you're able to give her a treat puzzle to solve we feel that she's appreciate that! Time spent inside the home should be considered also, so that Zinnea can feel like part of the family.
Family: Zinnea is suitable to meet kids from 6 years and up. Reason for this is because this social and playful girl may accidentally knock smaller kids over during play time.
Zinnea is best suited to people who work part-time as she enjoys interaction. While she doesn't need your attention 24/7 she is very smart and enjoys being engaged.
Furry Friends: Zinnea has been around other dogs of similar size and is very social and playful with them. As we cannot test, we are unsure how Zinnea would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training and Development: Zinnea would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. While Zinnea does jump, she is incredibly smart to learn not to and we are working with her on this behaviour - she has shown improvement already!
Zinnea knows her name and she knows commands such as: sit, down, shake, stay, roll over and crawl. She is food motivated but sometimes forgets her manners when taking treats from you though. Having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea, still.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long and is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Zinnea has low-range energy needs and would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 30-60mins a day to keep her engaged and happy. Luna is playful and likes to play with soft toys or squeaky toys. She also enjoys personal play with her handlers. Treat puzzles would be good for Zinnea as she enjoys 'working things out'...
Carers Comments: Zinnea is a wonderful dog and a smart cookie. We have seen her grow and develop into a great dog in her short time with us. She is smart, engaging, loves training and loves to be around people.
Post Adoption Life: With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as seamless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories - most are left in the shelter by their owners. The information we have is from observing the animal’s behaviours and reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life and a lot of behaviours and quirks may surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind and are patient.

Adoption details
We have an Adoptions Manager who screens all prospective candidates as to their suitability to adopt a German Shepherd Dog.
We try to contact every one by phone but if that isn't successful we will email our application form to you, which needs to be completed and returned, or you can call us back and we can chat and complete for you. We will also ask you to provide photos of your yard and fencing to enable us to see where the dog will be kept and that they have areas of shade and shelter.
All our dogs are ready to go to their new home, so when you enquire about a dog you must be in a position to take them into your home. We are unable to hold a dog while you fix your fences or go on holiday, etc.
The successful candidate who adopts one of our dogs is provided with an information kit, ongoing support, training and advice on all aspects of feeding, training and general assistance to ensure both the new owner and our rescued dog settle into their home.
