Meet Leila,
Leila is a sweet and gentle soul looking for a loving home to call her own. She’s the perfect match for first-time dog owners and can easily adapt to any household environment. However, she may prefer a quieter home where she can truly feel at ease.
An active lifestyle would suit Leila well - she loves going for walks, taking in the sights, and sniffing all the wonderful scents of the world around her. Though she can be a little shy and timid in new situations, she warms up quickly and soon reveals her happy, friendly, and social personality.
Leila is not only affectionate but also smart and curious, always ready to explore and engage with the people she loves. Playful and social, she enjoys spending time with her humans and making new friends. If you're looking for a loving doggo who will brighten your days with her sweet nature and gentle heart, Leila is the one for you!
Leila had a pretty nasty flea burden when she came to us. Although that has been dealt with, she was left sparce her hair on her back & near her tail. Not to worry though, our vet has given her the all clear & her hair has already started to grow back after a little TLC.
Ideal Home: Leila is fine to live in house type, yard size is of no concern either, just as long as the fencing is high & secure.
Leila is suitable to live inside the home full time but would need toilet training if her new owners would like her inside only. She is happy in a yard also.
Family: Leila is open to meet kids of any age & she is fine to live with people who work full-time hours too as she is content being by herself.
Furry Friends: Leila is open to meet dogs, but the other dog would have to match Leila's gentle nature. Leila is not boisterous and prefers dogs who are also gentle. If the other dog is too much Leila feels uneasy. We feel that she is still learning to make friends but would need to be matched up with the right dog.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Leila would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Leila would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. Group classes with other dogs would be good too so that she can extend her dog social skills & learn confidence. While Leila doesn't jump, she will place her paws on you to greet you & say hello.
With additional training Leila could be the type of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café or social event.
Leila is still learning her name but she knows commands such as: sit & she is eager to learn more. She is food motivated and often takes treats gently from you, so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Leila has low to mid-range energy needs & would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 20-30mins every other day to keep her happy & healthy. Leila is playful & likes to play with soft toys, or personal play with her handlers.
Leila walks well on lead, with very very minimal pulling. She can be walked on any walking apparatus.
Staff Comments: Leila is a sweet & social girl. She craves attention and is very people focused. She loves spending time with people & being the centre of their world.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
