Beamish is one of the lesser known of the Irish stouts. However, Beamish the dog has no problems making himself known to anyone that is willing to give him some loving. Beamish wants to be friends with all humans, great and small!
Beamish is an incredibly loving Border Collie x that makes it his mission to be a part of every waking moment of your life. Although he is only one year old, he is already a great companion who loves to play with both humans and other dogs. This includes smaller humans, but at this stage we recommend dog savvy kids over 10 due to his excitability.
In foster care, Beamish has largely spent his time outside with another dog. He loves coming in during the evening and resting at your feet to watch TV (once he has had a few scratches from the humans). At night he sleeps inside in a crate. Although it is an occasional challenge to get him in the crate, he settles well once he is in. He has been walked twice a day in foster care and is good on lead, but at least one good walk per day would be enough for him.
Although still working on some manners, while in care he has also learned to sit, lay, heel (kind of), not to jump up, and wait for your signal to go out and in the front door. Beamish has learned to lay on "place" while you are doing jobs around the house. He has also learned to settle nearby during quiet time in the evening (although not allowed on beds and couches in his foster home, we are sure he would love this).
Beamish is a very excitable dog, especially when seeing other dogs on walks. This is purely excitement and he wants to play, Beamish has shown absolutely no signs of aggression. It is recommended that his new family take him for obedience training to help him flourish.
Beamish has not yet been tested with cats. While we can only assume that he would be friendly, it is hard to get a good gauge on this given his excitability. We presume a slow introduction would be fine.
All in all, Beamish would make a wonderful addition to any family, especially those who will match the love he will give back to him. 🐶
