About Brew
Our beloved Brewery, affectionately known as Brew, is now ready to embark on a new chapter in her life by finding a forever home where she can be cherished and loved. Brew’s journey began when she was discovered with her ten tiny puppies, abandoned and in need of care. Despite the challenging start, Brew has blossomed into a sweet and gentle soul with a loving nature. Once she feels at ease in your presence, her affectionate personality truly shines through. Brew is an exceptional dog who promises to be a loyal and devoted companion. She exudes a sense of calmness around the home once she has settled in, making her an easy-going and delightful presence. She is a med size girl weighing in at just 24 kilos
Brew has a few favorite things that bring her joy and happiness. She has a particular fondness for food, which can be a great way to win her heart. Squeaky toys and giggle balls are among her cherished playthings, and she delights in the simple pleasure of being patted and receiving affection. One of her quirky habits is snapping at water, which never fails to amuse those around her.
When it comes to human interaction, Brew was fairly tolerant of people being around her pups, but she can be cautious when meeting new individuals. It’s important to allow Brew to approach at her own pace, without forcing interaction. Offering treats, especially hot chicken, can quickly win her over. While she may not enjoy being patted on the head by strangers, once she forms a bond with you, she adores pats, cuddles, massages, tummy rubs, and even kisses. The best approach to gaining her trust is to provide new acquaintances with treats during their first meeting, as Brew is highly motivated by food. Initially uncomfortable in crowded environments with many people and dogs, Brew thrives in quieter settings where she can feel more at ease. Once a bond is established, she becomes affectionate and loves to snuggle. She makes the perfect home companion to hang out with as is not overly needy
Brew’s interactions with other dogs have generally been positive, particularly with male dogs. She has been living harmoniously with multiple dogs and enjoys engaging in playful activities like wrestling and chasing. She would make an excellent companion for a well-behaved male dog who is both calm and playful. On walks, Brew may approach other dogs with enthusiasm, but she remains polite if they reciprocate her friendliness. She has met numerous dogs through slow introductions, and once she becomes familiar with them, she is perfectly fine. However, if another dog is overly dominant, Brew may assert herself. Due to her preference for familiar environments, Brew would not be suited to a dog park with unknown, boisterous dogs. Additionally, Brew does not get along with cats and has a tendency to chase birds.
In terms of food, Brew enjoys dry food and has learned to sit and wait patiently for her meals. Occasionally, she may try to eat from other dogs’ bowls, but she has never shown any signs of food aggression. She takes treats politely and with grace.
When it comes to sleep, Brew is a well-behaved sleeper. She rests peacefully on her bed throughout the night and can sleep either inside or outside, remaining generally quiet when outdoors.
Brew is an independent girl who is content to spend her days outside if needed. She rarely barks, except when she sees people walking past the house. Otherwise, she is a dream dog, not prone to destructive behavior, and enjoys lounging around. Brew is not a high-energy dog and is perfectly happy with a short half-hour walk each day.
Inside the home, Brew is very easy-going. She typically lounges on her mat and will happily join you for a cuddle if invited onto the couch. Occasionally, she may take a curious peek at the kitchen bench.
In terms of hygiene, Brew is fully toilet trained and enjoys being brushed. She tolerates baths without fuss.
Brew travels well in the car and occasionally barks when she sees other dogs or people. A simple “aaahh” usually quiets her down. She has traveled to places like Phillip Island without any issues and is learning to jump into the back of the car.
During walks, Brew is led on a slip lead and walks well without pulling. She is not allowed off-lead but is practicing recall with long-leash training. She is beginning to understand the command “come.” At times, Brew may pull or bark at unfamiliar dogs, but she can be easily redirected. Brew is not yet ready to be off-lead, but she has had short periods off-lead when playing with her foster buddy. Once playtime is over, she is put back on the lead. In the presence of multiple dogs, Brew can become overly excited, so she is not suited to busy dog parks.
In terms of obedience and play, Brew knows commands like sit, wait, and bed. She is working on commands such as come, drop, and getting into the car. Although she had minimal training before coming into care, she is eager to learn new skills, especially when food is involved.
Regarding her health, Brew has undergone an echocardiogram to assess her heart, as she has a slight heart murmur. The condition is mild and requires monitoring but does not need treatment at this time. In the long term, medication may be necessary if symptoms develop, but this is likely to occur in her older age. It is important to keep her weight within a normal range, walk her during cooler parts of the day, and avoid high-intensity exercise. Brew has a good exercise tolerance and will rest when tired. She has been treated for skin and ear infections and has been desexed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Brew also had some breast lumps investigated, and a biopsy showed no pathology. The lumps are expected to improve now that she is desexed.
Brew’s ideal home would be one that allows her to find her footing in a new environment, giving her the space and time to build a bond with her new family. A household without young children would be best, as Brew has been living with four adults and two dogs. She would thrive in a home with a couple or older children. Daily exercise, plenty of love, and quality time indoors are essential for Brew’s happiness and well-being.Previous dog experience essential
