About Lexie
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
**Before applying, please remember that adopting a puppy into your home is a huge commitment, and very demanding of your time. Puppies require daily exercise, positive and varied socialisation, grooming, training and playtime. When applying, please consider your work hours, holidays, and how busy your personal life is. Puppies will need someone who is home for most of the day with regular focused input, especially in those first six months after adoption **
NAME: Lexie
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance as an owner surrender
BREED: Ridgeback x
BREED TRAITS PLEASE READ: Rhodesian Ridgebacks are smart but stubborn with a dignified aloofness to strangers, Mischievous and strong willed so would need an experienced owner. They are sensitive and do not do well when left alone for long periods. Affectionate and gentle with family and will defend their home if necessary. Their high prey drive precludes other animals unless raised together. They can be aggressive towards animals outside the home. If bored and lonely they can be destructive or wander, so strong, high fencing is needed. These are not dogs for novice owners.
*************************************************************************
ASSETS: Easy going, a little shy initially, eager to please, friendly, laidback, obedient, playful and very sweet! She’s an absolute sweetheart.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Lexie loves cuddles and will happily cuddle up with you for a snooze. She plays and interacts well with the other dogs in her foster home and is just starting to play with toys, balls and ropes.
ENDEARING FEATURES: She’s very affectionate and is a great companion to have around – she bonds quickly and will be your shadow.
OTHER ANIMALS: Lexie gets on well with other dogs and could live with another friendly dog in her new home. She’s also fine around cats, after supervised introductions.
GENERAL INFO: Lexie walks well on the lead and is still housetraining. Expect some accidents while she gets the hang of things! She will bark when someone is at the door and hasn’t shown any signs of being destructive in her foster home as she is occupied with the family and resident dogs. Her command training is a work in progress which will need to be continued in her new home but she does ‘sit’ beautifully. She can become a little anxious when overwhelmed so gentle exposure to new things would help her.
ESSENTIALS for Lexie:
** A loving, gentle home with someone who can be with her for a good part of the day or can take her with them when they go out
** She will need daily exercise, playtime and mental activity. A home that is willing to involve her in daily activities is essential for her as she loves to be right where you are
** Lexie needs a fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore
** Lexie would benefit greatly from structured training to make up for the lack of input in her early life – this is a commitment we would expect from her new owner
** Lexie needs to be allowed inside the home when you are there and to sleep inside at night
Lexie could live with dog-savvy, gentle children over 8yrs of age who will be able to read her signals and engage with her on a daily basis. She would enjoy living with another dog or at the very least would like to have regular interaction with other friendly dogs.
If Lexie sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
