About Rolf
Our beautiful.loving and very goofy Murray River Curly Coated Retriever boy “ Rolf is now ready to start the search for his forever family.
Introducing Rolf, affectionately known as Ralph by his carers, a delightful and exuberant companion who is sure to become your new best friend. Rolf is an incredibly loving, joyful, and friendly bundle of energy, always eager to spread happiness wherever he goes. Whether it’s playing in the backyard or accompanying you on your adventures, Rolf is always ready for fun. He adores being outdoors, rolling on the grass, or lounging under the shade of trees and bushes.
Since coming into our care, Rolf has truly blossomed into a trusting and affectionate member of our family. He cherishes simply being in the company of his loved ones. Whoever is fortunate enough to welcome Rolf into their forever home will gain a loyal and friendly companion who will bring endless joy and companionship. Rolf did have some hooman trust issues when he arrived a few months ago but he has now blossomed into the most loving and affectionate boy who adores the touch of those he loves
Rolf's favourite activities include playing with his beloved ball and engaging with all his toys. He also enjoys going for walks, where he can explore the world around him.
When it comes to interacting with humans, Rolf can initially be a bit unsure of new people. He requires a patient and understanding family who will give him the time and space he needs to settle in and feel comfortable. Once he feels at ease, Rolf transforms into the perfect pal. He now happily greets people during walks and has been supervised around children, but we are seeking an adult-only home for him. Although Rolf is generally friendly with most people, he can be a bit selective. Ralph enjoys socializing with his people but also values his independence, making him more of an independent spirit rather than a lap dog.
Ralph is unfazed by loud noises such as lightning, thunder, and fireworks, having experienced them all while with us without any reaction.
In terms of obedience, Ralph had minimal training when he first arrived in our care, but with some guidance, he has made significant progress. He can now sit on command, sit while walking at intersections, and wait patiently until given the signal to move. We are currently working on teaching him to shake hands, which is still a work in progress but showing promise.
Ralph loves car rides and behaves exceptionally well during travel. He sits up like a royal passenger and has never caused any issues in the car. The longest car trip he has taken was around 30 minutes, and he handled it without any problems. While he has never been off-leash in public, he responds well when called by name during walks.
Rolf is friendly towards other dogs but has not yet engaged in any play. He is also friendly with other dogs during walks, happy to say hello and walk on, showing little interest in the noisy yappers next door and rarely barks at them. He is definitely comfortable doing his own thing. Not tested with cats However, he is not a fan of the possums that scurry along the fence and sometimes entertains the idea of catching a bird flying by. We feel that Rolf is best as an only dog at this point in his life and to have continued dog positive interactions as his matures before he should reside with another dog
When it comes to food, Ralph eats at his own pace. If you choose to hand-feed him, he will eat eagerly at any time. He is fed twice a day, but occasionally he may skip breakfast and eat later. He's a bit of a grazer .
Ralph is quite independent and is left alone each working day without any issues. He has plenty of toys to keep him entertained and is content to amuse himself. He is not destructive and seems to keep his toys in one piece lol
In terms of grooming and hygiene, Ralph has a soft, curly coat. While he is a bit apprehensive about being brushed, we turn it into a fun game, and he becomes more comfortable with the process. He was recently professionally groomed and behaved beautifully.
Ralph prefers sleeping outside, though he comes inside when it’s too hot. He sleeps in the garage on the couch and is rarely heard from unless the possums become too bothersome.
Ralph loves his daily walks and would be thrilled to walk for half an hour each day. He may pull a bit at the start of the walk due to his excitement, but once he settles into the rhythm, he walks calmly without much pulling.
Rolfy boy has had full xrays done of his hips and shows a very low grade of hip dysplasia so we have started prevention treatment with a course of Zydax over a 4 week period and have him on a joint supplement . He is desexed vaccinated and fully wormed and flead
Murray River Retrievers are an incredible dog that do require a consistent and experienced home to thrive so please ensure before you apply that you understand the needs of this breed please
