On Hold
About Molly - 4 Year Old Kelpie (on hold)
Looking for a loyal, clever, and cheeky best friend? Meet Molly, a 4-year-old purebred Kelpie with a heart as big as her personality! This lovely lady is the perfect mix of brains, sass, and affection — and she’s ready to find her forever family.
🐶 About Molly
Molly is a true communicator! She’s vocal in the best way — she’ll let you know when something's happening in the neighbourhood or when she’s excited about a new dog or person. She may bark or get a bit overexcited when meeting someone for the first time, but give her a little time and patience, and she settles down beautifully. Once she feels safe, her sweet and affectionate side shines through.
She’s an angel in the house — no accidents, no destruction, and she respects boundaries like a pro. She doesn’t dig, doesn’t try to escape, and sleeps soundly through the night (sometimes up to 10 hours!). She loves cozying up in her foster carer’s room in her own bed. Invite her on the bed for cuddles and she’ll gladly oblige, then hop off on cue like a polite little queen.
She loves her toys, especially the noisy ones, and has started to fetch them for you! She enjoys a splash in shallow water too — a bit of a paddler at heart. She can be very enthusiastic with her affection — think lapdog energy in a lanky body, with kisses incoming if you’re not quick!
🧠 Personality & Training
Molly is incredibly smart and quick to learn. She’s working on her basic obedience and lead manners — she can pull at the start of a walk, especially in busy areas, but calms quickly once in a quieter environment.
She’s not food-obsessed, but she’s growing more interested in her meals, puzzle toys, Kongs, and bones. She likes to be left alone to eat and may guard high-value items at times, sometimes running off with them. However, her foster carer is seeing improvement with hand-feeding treats and respecting her space — she’s gradually becoming more relaxed and trusting.
She’s not destructive when left alone during the day and shows no signs of separation anxiety — a great match for someone who works outside the home. Her foster carer leaves music or dog TV on YouTube, which she seems to enjoy and which may help her feel calm while home alone.
She loves being brushed and didn’t seem to mind being washed either — just another way to pamper this deserving girl.
🚗 Lifestyle & Needs
Molly needs daily enrichment and exercise. She thrives in off-leash dog parks or bush/nature walks, so access to open space is a must.
Acreage or a property would be ideal, but she still needs human interaction and engagement — Molly’s not a “put her in the backyard and forget her” type of dog.
She is reactive to cars — so suburban street walks are still stressful for her. A quieter, more natural environment will help her flourish.
She must have access to both indoors and outdoors during the day, and must sleep inside at night — Molly is part of the family, not a yard dog.
🐕 Dog & Social Dynamics
Molly enjoys other dogs’ company, though she can be protective in her own home space, especially when unfamiliar dogs enter.
She could also do well with another dog of similar age and breed, but any potential dog siblings will need to be tested first to ensure compatibility.
She would also thrive as a solo dog, bonding deeply with her humans.
She’s shown lots of enthusiasm when meeting children. However, due to her size, bouncy playfulness, and excitement, she would be better suited to a home with older kids who can handle her energy.
🚙 Travel Buddy
She’s now a pro in the car! Though she was initially nervous, she’s learned to love car rides — especially when they lead her home or on adventures.
💛 Ideal Home
Molly would suit an active, dog-savvy family or individual who understands working breeds and can offer structure, love, and lots of outdoor adventures. A calm environment and space to explore are key, as well as patience to help her keep growing in confidence and allowing her to decompress, as she has had lots of changes and life upheavals. A home where she has indoor access during the day and sleeps safely inside at night is a must.
Her adoption fee is $800, and she is desexed, vaccinated, wormed and flea treated, and microchipped. She is in foster care in Hunter Valley, NSW, and not available for adoption interstate.
