About Charlie
Not available for interstate adoption apart from ACT
Charlie must go to a home with at least one other smaller, friendly, playful, well-adjusted and socially confident dog who is up for doggy games. Charlie is not suited to a home with birds or cats.
Profile and needs in a home
Charlie is a lovely boy who wants to be your best friend. Coming from a bit of a rough start he has had little or no exposure to the outside world in his previous home so he is a bit sensitive to new sounds, especially dogs barking, but once he knows you can protect him, he settles.
Charlie is doing really well in his foster home progressing more and more with each day that goes by.
Charlie will need someone who is kind and patient and will go slow with him and can continue to teach him that life is about love and let him be the best version of himself.
Charlie is a little shy and timid to start with but will soon find his confidence with his new owner’s love and affection.
He does not show any anxiety when left alone with his carers dogs for short periods of time, nor with lightning and thunderstorms.
He is an active dog, so will need an active home that can get him out and about for a long walk/adventure once or twice a day, provide mental stimulation in the home as well as play with your other dog.
His recall is very good and he walks well on a lead with or without other dogs.
Best suited to a home in a peaceful area with a secure garden or large courtyard.
Charlie thrives on companionship and connection so must go to a home with at least one friendly, playful and well-adjusted dog and to a home where his new owners are not constantly away for long periods of time.
Charlie is drawn to children so would be suitable to a home with children over the age of 9, provided that they are kind, gentle and respectful of animals and can give him space when he needs it.
He very much wants to learn. His new home will need to continue his training, using force-free/positive reward-based training methods only and continue to get him out and about in the outside world whilst not overwhelming him.
Charlie is quick to learn and mastered the use of his foster carer’s doggie doors.
Charlie is still learning commands; he knows how to sit before meals and will give you a nice little "woo woo" before he eats. It's part of his charm. Charlie is always eager to impress.
Like all of our dogs, Charlie must always have access inside and out and be permitted to cuddle on the couch. He will sleep on his bed, but he will gladly sleep in yours, so his new home will need to permit Charlie to sleep in the bedroom and get up on the bed for cuddle time.
He loves bath times as he gets to zoom around the house after. In summary, Charlie isn’t just looking for a house - he’s looking for a forever home filled with love, companionship, and kindness.
If you think you have the perfect home for Charlie and would like to meet him, please send us some infomation on yourself and the home you are able to provide including your dog and any other pets (if any), family members, lifestyle, exercise and mental stimulation you will provide, how often Charlie would be alone, where he will have access in the home, where Charlie would go if you went away and could not take him with you, ability to cover vet expenses.
