About Tucker
Meet Handsome Tucker!
After a horrendous start to life, Tucker now finds himself safe & in shelter, waiting to start the next chapter of his life.
Having grown up as part of a back yard breeding operation, Tucker & his siblings were subjected to cruelty, neglect & abuse. As a result of this, we have had to work very closely with them to help them trust & form a bond with humans. It was heartbreaking for us to see how very fearful they initially were of people.
Tucker was a very nervous boy, but we are seeing this beautiful young guy slowly begin to gain confidence & come out of his shell. He is now at a stage where we can pop him into his harness & take him for walks. The big, wide world was something they had never seen so there are a lot of "firsts" that Tucker has come across. The key to socialising a dog is to take it slowly & ensure that the dog has positive associations with new experiences.
Tucker has become an affectionate, playful boy who seeks out reassurance & safety from his favourite people.
Tucker has lived with other dogs, but this was under very stressful conditions. He really enjoys the company of his sister & may benefit from having a dog buddy in his life, preferably a sociable female but he's open to suggestion! A dog meet prior to adoption would be needed.
Being part cattle dog, Tucker can occasionally be a bit "nippy". This is partly due to his breed, his age, his energy levels & some anxiety. With this in mind, we suggest no small kids as well as providing adequate exercise and mental & physical enrichment. He is a highly intelligent boy who will benefit greatly from ongoing positive reinforcement training.
Tucker has only known an outside life so if you are willing to let him live indoors with you, be mindful that he will need time & patience for toilet training.
Prospective adopters may need to visit Tucker more than once at the shelter to start gaining his trust & forming a bond.
Tucker is looking for a patient, understanding & compassionate home with a family who will give him the time he needs to adjust & settle. It may take him a few months to heal from his trauma, but he is definitely worth the wait.
