Sandoz is a happy and cuddly young staffy x mastiff. He loves all people and is very happy to meet new people and receive pats when out and about. At home he is very cuddly and will happily roll over for a belly rub (one of his favourite things)
He loves kids and would thrive in a home with children however being a puppy he is still learning his own strength and can be jumpy. He is very food motivated which
makes obedience training easy. He is also very gentle with taking treats! He has learnt 'sit', 'toilet' and is grasping the concept of 'come'. Despite a few accidents early on in his new foster home, he quickly learned bathroom = outside.
Sandoz is also very dog friendly once he gets to know them. He was timid for about a week but then settled in with the resident dogs in foster care. He is now besties with the resident 4 year old staffy playing and napping together happily. The other resident dog aged 5 has lower energy levels due to their breed and as such mostly avoids Sandoz as the puppy zoomies and energy can be too much.
A dog friend who has similar energy levels will be great (if they are more senior, this may not work out too well).
Sandoz can be left on his own for short periods of time but being a typical puppy he will find mischievous ways to entertain himself. Being walked regularly and included in family activities will keep him mentally stimulated and behaving. As he has only recently been fully vaxxed he is still learning to walk on leash but as previously mentioned responds well to treats as a motivator. Ongoing training is recommended.
Sandoz is crate trained and whilst sometimes still gives a little grumble as a protest he will quickly fall asleep and stay in his crate until morning. In the morning he loves a cuddle and to snooze alongside you until you are ready to get up.
Sandoz is in good health however he has what is known as 'cauliflower ears'. Either from an infection or trauma from scratching his ears at one point they filled with fluid and were not treated by a vet. As such the fluid caused the cartilage to separate so his ears feel hard and have a cauliflower look to them. The vets have assured this is only a superficial issue and will not cause any damage to his hearing. It does mean he may be susceptible to ear infections but ensuring his ears are kept clean and he is taken to the vet if they do become infected should prevent any additional issues.
He is very chilled out in relation to new experiences - so far he has not reacted to thunder, fireworks, loves water, enjoyed a few trolley rides around the local Bunnings and travels well in the car. He has not been tested with cats or other livestock at this stage.
Sandoz loves his humans greatly, if you're looking for a cuddle bug to follow you everywhere and join in on your adventures he's your man!
