About Milly
Hi! I’m Milly and I’m looking for a new family to call my own.
APPLICATION PROCESS APPLIES FOR MILLY
PLEASE COMPLETE THE BELOW APPLICATION FORM
https://forms.gle/DAUfk4aM7R2Nj4GG9
NOTE: You are unable to meet Milly until/unless you have been notified that you are a successful applicant. An adoption cannot be approved unless you are able to come to the shelter to meet Milly in person and bring any dogs you currently have with you.
What I need in my new home:
· Daily walks, trips to the park or beach, playtime in the backyard
· Further training with basic doggie manners
· To be allowed inside with my family
· A patient family who’ll allow me to grow in confidence in my own time.
· A doggie playmate who is gentle and calm may be okay as boisterous dogs scare me so I will require lots of socialisation with positive experiences with other dogs.
· A doggie playmate would be great, if not then lots of socialising with other dogs
· A cat may be ok with a slow introduction.
· I like both friendly male and female dogs
· Secure Fencing (6ft Colorbond or equivalent)
· Lots of toys and mental stimulation
· A diet of good quality dry food to help keep my teeth clean
· Lots of love and attention
· A quiet & mature family/household - this is what I am used too
· No young children as I can be very shy & nervous, older children who understand that they will need to take is slow with me should be ok.
· I can be shy at first so I need a family who’ll allow me to grow in confidence in my own time
· A family that will love and care for me during my twilight years
· I have a hunt/chase prey drive so I can't go to a home that already has rabbits/guinea pigs or chickens/ducks as I will chase them
· TRAINING TRAINING TRAINING. It's ESSENTIAL I receive training in all aspects of my life so I can be the best dog I can be when I'm older.
· SOCIALISATION is as important for me as it appears I've led a very sheltered life and can be a bit nervous/shy in new situations. Since being at the shelter I'm becoming much braver though. Taking me to lots of different places, meeting lots of people (children, men, woman etc) and meeting lots of dogs and other animals will help boost my confidence
Things that I don’t want in my new home:
· To be left alone in the backyard without any interaction
· Not to be allowed inside with my family
· Never to go on a walk or rides in the car
· No young children as I can be a bit shy in new situations and with new people and little ones may accidently scare me. Older children who will be involved with my training should be ok
· Rabbits, guinea pigs and livestock
· I am extremely timid in new situations such as entering a building/home. I MUST have a family who'll allow me inside so I can see it isn't a scary place and to allow my confidence to grow.
· I can sometimes initially be shy and try to avoid things going over my head (lead etc). It doesn't take long for me warm up and my excitable & full of life nature to come out.
· I am scared of thunder and fireworks. I will require a safe space to retreat to during these events as well as comfort and reassurance from my family.
My best features:
· Gentle & placid
· I can sit, shake hands & stay
· I have had some basic obedience training and am a generally well-mannered dog
· I love attention and having snuggles with my humans
· I know my basic doggie commands
· Happy to hang out with other friendly dogs
· I am housetrained but more training is needed and is used to being allowed inside
· I LOVE toys
· I love attention, hugs, kisses & head scratches
· Well mannered
· Love to snooze on the couch
Where I need to improve / Training required:
· I am shy at first with new people and in new environments so will require a family who will take their time allowing me to settle in and continue on with my socialization
· Unsure in new situations – more socialising is needed
· I love my food and toys so using them as a positive reward should make my training easier.
· I need further training on my recall as I can ignore you if you're trying to call me back to you
