About Reuben
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Reuben (4.4kgs)
ADOPTION FEE: $795
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance as an owner surrender.
BREED: Chihuahua x Terrier
BREED TRAITS: Chihuahuas love to be with their people and are definitely companion dogs that do not like to be left alone, They are sensitive, and can be aloof or wary of strangers and other dogs so early socialisation is very important. Chihuahuas cannot tolerate cold or hot weather so a warm coat in the winter and care re overheating in the summer is needed - they are not outside dogs. They are bright and willful but will learn if you make it fun and although small, have big personalities.
Terriers come in all shapes and sizes and were bred for different reasons but many were for farm work or ratting. Today they are mainly companions. Terriers are generally high energy, very bright and quick to learn but can be stubborn. They have strong personalities and a sense of fun and want to be included in everything you do. Don't take on a terrier unless you really do want a companion.
****************************************************************************
ASSETS: Easy-going, affectionate, devoted, eager to please, friendly, obedient, sensitive, playful and very sweet! He’s an absolute darling!
FAVOURITE THINGS: Reuben loves to play with stuffed toys and balls. He’s happy to play on his own but especially loves it when you throw the ball for him. He’s a very loyal boy who loves to be around his people. He travels well in the car and enjoys trips to the beach where he will play and chase his ball into the water. He’s also very affectionate and will happily snuggle up with you for a snooze.
ENDEARING FEATURES: He has an awesome personality and loads of energy.
OTHER ANIMALS: Reuben gets on well with other dogs and could live with another friendly dog in his new home. He is being fostered with cats and could also live with a dog-savvy cat, after gentle, supervised introductions.
GENERAL INFO: Reuben walks well on the lead, is housetrained and loves trips out in the car. He will bark when someone is at the door but settles down once he’s introduced to the new person - he can be a little wary of new people at home but is fine out of the house. He hasn’t been destructive in his foster home and has a medium energy level. He knows a couple of commands but will need some training in this area and this is a commitment we would expect from his new owner.
ESSENTIALS for Reuben:
** A loving, home with someone who can be with him for a good part of the day or can take him with them when they go out - not suitable for full time workers.
** He will need daily exercise, playtime and mental activity. A home that is willing to involve him in activities.
** Reuben needs a fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore.
** Reuben needs to be allowed inside the home when you are there and to sleep inside at night.
Reuben could live with dog-savvy, gentle children over 8-10yrs of age depending on experience, who will be able to read his signals and engage with him on a daily basis. He would enjoy living with another dog or at the very least would like to have regular interaction with other friendly dogs.
If Reuben sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
