Cutie Patootie is a great companion dog, but she has significant health challenges, and does not appear to have received clear puppy training, and she needs a clear and consistent routine, with plenty of interests to keep her smart mind busy, without becoming bored or spoilt.
She came back into care of Starting Over paralysed, and had spinal surgery which was successful, but she does have some residual deficits. Her surgeon estimates she has a 17% higher chance than normal of a further episode in the future. She also has a Grade 2 left medial patella luxation.
She will come with her surgeons report which recommends regular walks and play to keep her lean and muscular.
She is not allowed to become overweight, and is to avoid high impact activities such as agility and jumping. She can use ramps and small steps, but is not to be allowed to jump off furniture or use long flights of stairs
She will need a confident, calm & experienced owner who will allow her plenty of time to settle in encourage her to listen to, and obey, instructions, and not allow her on the lounge or bed. She is not to be carried around or treated as a handbag dog, and for this reason, she is not suitable to live or have around children, nor for a first time dog owner, or older owners who may possibly trip over her.
She is social and loves the company of other smaller dogs, but is not to be allowed to play with large dogs due to risk of injury
Like all poodles, Cutie Patootie will need a full professional groom approximately every 6 weeks, (Cost approx. $90 – 120)
In foster care Cutie Patootie has had an older toy poodle acting as a mentor and rehab nurse for her and this has socialised her and helped her manners considerably.
They are not a bonded pair but would live very happily together
