About Tigs
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Tigs
BEFORE SAFE Esperance: Came to SAFE Esperance as an owner surrender.
BREED: Border Collie x Australian Kelpie
BREED TRAITS: Border Collie – originally bred to herd sheep they are a sensitive breed that needs company. Affectionate with family and people friendly. Highly intelligent and easy to train they need plenty of exercise and mental stimulation – they are not cuddly couch potatoes and need a job. They will herd anything that moves such as children, cars, bikes etc. They need an active owner, not a novice owner.
Kelpies are high energy and highly intelligent being a working breed, so may need to be found a 'job' to make them feel fulfilled. They get bored easily if their brains are not worked, so training is a must. If raised correctly they are very social with adults, children and other dogs. They are very loyal but if the instinct is strong they may try to herd your children.

ASSETS: Tigs generally doesn't bark or dig holes in the lawn. He is a very loyal, friendly, obedient, active and playful boy and above all very affectionate.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Tigs loves playing fetch and loves trying to catch the water from the hose. He enjoys and benefits from having a longer walk in the morning - he has been going for 5 km walks every morning. He's never happier than when he's getting attention and will happily follow you around just to be near you. He also loves to play with his treat toys.
ENDEARING FEATURES: He's a very sweet, smart boy with a beautiful, affectionate nature. He loves to have his belly rubbed!
OTHER ANIMALS: Tigs has been introduced to the dogs near his foster home and has behaved well when introduced on a one-to-one basis. His previous owner who worked on a farm said that he enjoys the company of other dogs.
GENERAL INFO: Tigs will benefit from having a loving home with someone who is quite active - a runner/walker/hiker - or farm life where he is out and about - he has done some work with sweep. He needs good daily exercise to help him be a chilled-out man for the rest of the day. Tigs walks quietly on his lead and responds to 'heal' when out walking and he knows to sit before crossing the road. He understands commands such as sit, stay and bed and knows to sit and wait for his dinner. He will also sit and wait for gates or doors to be opened.
Tigs will also benefit from further training as he has an active brain and can be easily distracted when out and about. Tigs' current foster carer is home for the majority of the time and this has created a strong bond with his person. He is currently being fostered in town with good fencing but really enjoys the outdoor life - he can become anxious if left on his own for long periods.
ESSENTIALS for Tigs:
** An active, loving home with someone who can be with him for part of the day or can take him with them when they go out. He wants to be someone’s best friend
** He’s a very active boy so will need good daily exercise, playtime and mental activity. A home that is willing to involve him in daily activities is essential for him
** Training would be ideal for Tigs to fill in the gaps from his early life and help create the close bond with his owner that he loves
** If in town Tigs needs a high fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore
**Tigs needs to be allowed inside the home when you are there and to sleep inside at night. His connection to his person is very important to him
We feel that Tigs would be better suited to an adult only home as he has not been raised around or tested with children. He had a rough start as a pup and so time needs to be spent building his sense of safety and trust. He has mixed with other dogs on a farm and could live with another dog with a similar energy level dependent on meet.
If Tigs sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
