About Hershey
Our delectable chocolate boy Hershey is ready for his new home!
Hershey is a playful, easy-going dog who will make a great addition to his new home. He is a smoocher of a boy who gives his foster carers lots of kisses and cuddles. Hershey loves getting pats, gentle head scratches and chest rubs. It sometimes feels like he spends more time upside down than upright – particularly if he is napping on his bed or on the grass in the sun! He likes to be touching his foster parents, whether it’s sleeping by their feet while they work from home or snuggling up against them on the couch. On the flip side, he will happily entertain himself as well. He loves hard chew toys and loves to throw his soft toys around in the air, pounce on them and then repeat. Hershey is also a bit of a goofball who will have a gallop around the yard and then slide into something with a derpy look on his face that just makes you laugh.
Hershey loves his doggy friends and is very dog social. He will need a home with another friendly and playful dog who can enjoy a game with him and keep him company. Hershey loves to run around with other dogs and enjoys a good game of tug of war with a rope toy. He has good play manners, often stopping to take a break or picking up cues from the dog he is playing with if they want a rest. Hershey will need a home where he is taken on daily walks and given mental stimulation to keep him healthy and happy throughout his life. If his foster carers are a bit late with his walks, he will head to the front door and wait for them to remind them it’s time to go!
Hershey is a smart boy and shows a willingness to please. He has learned things quickly in his foster home and knows how to sit, stay and wait for his dinner. Hershey was initially a bit of a zig-zagger on the lead and while he has made good progress with his lead manners, this is an area where his new owners should be willing to continue his training so that he can master the art of loose lead walking. Generally, he will only really pull if he gets excited to see another dog or spots one of those very tempting brush turkeys or plovers lurking around, but he does respond well to distraction and guidance. At home, Hershey is toilet trained and will take himself outside. He is also crate trained and sleeps there throughout the night without a peep. Additionally, Hershey travels well in the car and would love to join his new owners on trips and adventures.
We are looking for a dog experienced home for Hershey where he will be a loved member of the family and taken on by someone who wants to get the absolute best out of him. As mentioned, we are looking to rehome him with another friendly and playful adult dog who is already fully trained and ready to be a great role model for him. He has no problems being left home alone with a doggy companion here and there in his foster home. His new home should have someone home more often than not as he does love to be by your side. Hershey should be allowed inside to be with the family and will need a warm comfy bed inside to sleep on at night. This boy is a great medium size and weighs a tidy 23.5kg.
Hershey has a tendency to match the energy of the people around him so we feel a home with older children (teenagers) would be better than young children. We don’t feel that he would be suitable for a home with cats. Hershey will need a home with a decent yard where he can run around and stretch his legs with his doggy friend. Out and about, loud traffic like motorbikes and trucks can get him a bit on edge so he would be better suited to a home where he isn’t walked near busy roads and with someone who can continue to build his neutrality around these sounds. Everyone that meets this boy comments on what a nice dog he is and his foster carers have loved having him, so he is bound to win you over too!
If you would like to make this beautiful boy a part of your life, then please complete a Dog Adoption Enquiry form on the Fetching Dogs website as the first step. Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
