About Maggie
Please meet Maggie! She is a beautiful 10-12month old kelpie who would love to join your family. She is fantastic with dog savvy kids from ages 3+ and will absolutely need to find a home with a doggy companion who will help give her the confidence she needs. She is untested with cats or pocket pets.
Maggie can be quite timid and shy when she first meets new people. She won’t generally run away though, as the desire for pats pushes her past her fears. Once she is familiar with you though, she is such a sweet girl. She loves pats and has just started to ask us for belly rubs. She likes to lean against your leg and, if you let her, she would quite happily snuggle up with you. She will need a family that is willing to be patient with her, allow her to earn their trust and be ready to reap all the rewards that her love will bring for years to come.
Being inside was completely foreign to Maggie when she arrived, so she is slowly learning that it isn’t scary. She prefers to stick to the tiled areas as carpet is still a bit too strange. With time I think she would adjust to some indoors time, but she is much happier outdoors. Surprisingly, loud noises like the lawn mower and power tools do not bother her in the slightest.
Energy wise, she is definitely on the quieter end of a kelpies energy spectrum. She is learning to enjoy walking on the lead and has discovered the tennis ball recently. At the same time, she happily will spend a day in the backyard, investigating noises and smells. She does bark from time to time, yesterday I caught her barking at the rain and jumping up to catch it in her mouth 😂 but she is not destructive at all. No digging, chewing or ripping has been seen. She does like to sneak off with the kids shoes though and leave them in different places, but she does it ever so gently, there aren’t even tooth marks in them.
Maggie does not have any basic obedience, so be aware that is something you will need to be prepared to work on with her. She will need to build a relationship with her new owner before any training can begin. In saying that, she is an incredible natured, well mannered and aware dog, we honestly do not even notice that fact she can’t sit on command.
Overall, if you are looking for a companion for your dog, are committed to allowing Maggie time and space to overcome her insecurities and working towards some basic obedience, you will in return, have a beautifully sweet and gentle pup who will give you so much love, you won’t know what to do with it all.
