About North
North is a sweet and friendly 28kg bundle of energy, with a sweet and friendly nature. She is looking for a home with dog-experienced people who will be committed to continue her obedience training with her - so she can continue to be the polite dog she was always destined to be. Her time in foster care has taught her to have better manners, being less ‘jumpy’ as well as less ‘mouthy’. North lives well with boundaries and structure in the home and rarely barks despite being isolated in the backyard in her previous life.
She's a smart girl who can ‘pick up a few tricks’ with lots of play drive so will thrive in a home who will make her a priority in their life (as sadly this has not been the experience for her in her previous life). Her two breeds, German Shepherd and Siberian Husky, make her ideal to be given a ‘job’ or fun activity for her to learn and feel fulfilled, she has good food-motivation making training easier. Currently, she is fulfilled by a good walk with lots of sniffing and a game in the later part of the day - you can choose between tug, hide-n-seek with food or an attempt at fetch.
North enjoys the outdoors - she beats you to the door when she thinks you’re going outside to walk her or even to put out the bins. She enjoys the dog park and enjoys friendly dogs with her playful nature where she goes into chase mode, almost to a fault where her intensity can be off-putting for more introverted dogs. North has a lot of potential meeting new dogs and still is developing her manners here.
Her other simple pleasures are car rides with her head out the windows enjoying the smells and sights whizzing by as well as being with her family near your feet in the kitchen, dining table or on the couch. She also leaves a trail of furriness from both her breeds’ fur, but does not fret with the vacuum cleaner or robot vacuum in use.
North has the ability to live with another dog who is playful and very tolerant (and does not growl), as her intensity needs to sometimes be stopped by a handler for a dog who is not interested in her. She will also be fine as an ‘only-dog’ household soaking in your undivided attention.
North has minimal separation anxiety and when home alone, she can eventually settle - she enjoys flopping between some sunbaking and sleeping on the couch. Her guardian instincts can kick in and she can take on the role of protecting the house from the invasive post-man (but seems to ignore your nosy neighbours) or those passing with a dog. She is best in a cat-free home with secure standard/high fencing. Can you be the ‘guiding star’ for North?
