About Alfalfa (Alfie)
Alfie is a handsome young black and tan kelpie boy about 2 year old. He has a cute sprout of hair on the top of his head which he loves to show off paired with a kelpie head-tilt while he elegantly crosses over his front paws.
At home, Alfie loves to spend time being part of the pack - hanging out with his humans and his foster fur-siblings. He is equally happy with a game of doggie rough and tumble, snoozing in the patch of sun on the back verandah while keeping an eye on what is happening inside and snuggling up beside you for the evening. He is a smoocher and loves to be near to his someone special.
Alfie eagerly anticipates his early morning walks and the brekkie snacks (carrot and apple) provided when the humans stop for coffee. Since coming into foster care he has learnt many things about the big wide world and has gained lots of confidence. This includes learning to walk nicely on a lead, to go to his bed when the humans leave the house and waiting his turn for treats.
Alfie can still be a little frightened of some things - like trains (because they are big and loud), train crossing signals (because they make weird sounds at unpleasant frequencies) and sometimes when there are strange dogs coming towards him (because they also might be big and loud). Alfie is learning to focus on his human companions and be calmer when these things happen and is building his confidence every day. He loves consistency, so developing and following routines has been very helpful with his training.
Alfie gets along really well with other dogs, providing he has a slow introduction. His foster fur-siblings are working dogs like him, and he has made a variety of 4-legged friends including labradors and a little beagalier. He has not spent time living with cats while in foster care. He has not lived with children while he has been in foster care, but has been sociable with the children he has interacted with while out on walks.
Alfie would love to find a forever home where he is an active part of the family – going on adventures together or just hanging out at home. He would like it even more if there was also another furry friend to show him the ropes and to play with him.
