MAX NEEDS SOMEONE HE CAN TRUST!
Handsome Max will be celebrating his 2nd birthday at the end of February. This boy has already been let down by humans at such a young age and is looking for someone that will help him heal as he enters this next chapter of his life. We are searching for a committed foster or foster to adopt home for Max.
Max came to us from a Melbourne pound, we don’t know a lot about his history, but it is clear to us that he hasn’t always been treated with kindness, nor has he received enough exposure to the outside world. We don’t know why, but Max doesn’t trust humans at first, they worry him, and he is very unsure of their intentions.
Max has been learning that humans can be kind and a source of treats, and whilst he has drastically improved especially outside of the home, he can still be very wary at first especially around some men. Max seems to settle and accept females a lot quicker than he does men but has also had successful meetings with men when given time and introduced correctly.
When Max is feeling unsure, he alarm barks, he will try and act as big and scary as he can to let everyone know he is unsure and that he needs space, Max thinks that he needs to scare someone off before they scare him. Max has received rewards-based training which helps him to create a positive association with someone and to feel happier around them, this has worked well for him so far and will need to continue in his new home.
Max is looking for a home where a female will be his primary handler, Max would be able to accept a man in the home, but it will need to be a slow process to ensure everyone is feeling comfortable and safe with a female owner as a buffer for reassurance. Max needs a quiet, stable home where his routine is predictable, visitors will need to be kept to a minimum for now so that Max can settle in and learn he is safe. Max needs and adults only home where everyone has experience with large-breed reactive dogs.
Max responds well to training and is very food motivated, he likes learning new things and is very clever! Max will need ongoing training; he would benefit from 1on1 sessions with a trainer so that he can keep practising his skills and focus on his handler. Max walks relatively well on lead, even when he does react to something, he is able to be redirected and his attention re-focused.
Max was a little conflicted around other dogs at first, unsure of how to interact, however lately he has been meeting other dogs and has done exceptionally well, he has been comfortable hanging out and even sharing his ball. Max could do well living with a confident, friendly, large breed dog that can act as a mentor and give Max confidence, Max would also be fine living as the only dog in his new home.
Max has not been thoroughly tested with cats, he doesn’t react or show them much interest when out on walks.
Max loves toys, balls both big and small are his absolute favourite… and if they squeak, even better! Max likes to offer his toys to people once he is accepting of them and will carry them around the house. Max is fine being left alone and other than suckling a hole into his bed, he hasn’t been destructive or naughty.
Once Max knows he is safe, he is incredibly affectionate and extremely loyal, he loves pats, rubs and being brushed by his chosen human and is a little love bug that just wants to be by your side. Max loves to cuddle on the bed and the couch and is the perfect Netflix buddy.
We know that Max has some baggage, but we believe he deserves a chance and that there is someone special out there that can open their home and heart to Max and teach him that he can trust humans and learn what it is like to feel safe and loved.
In the right hands, someone who is experienced with reactive dogs will get the very best out of this boy, he has so much potential, he just needs a chance and some guidance to let it shine!

Adoption details
We offer a 'Foster to Adopt' program. This means that the dog will go to live with their adoptive family for 4 weeks to ensure it is the perfect match for both the dog and new family. After the 4 weeks is complete, if all has gone well, the adoption is formalised and your new doggy companion is officially yours!
If you are interested in adopting from us, we ask that you fill out the Adoption Application form on our website (via the link provided below) with as much detail as possible, including the name of the dog you are interested in.
We do not rehome female dogs to a home where there is an existing female dog. Whilst there are always exceptions, it is generally unwise to have two females together; two males can sort it out, a male and a female can sort it out, but when two females fight, the results can be disastrous. For this reason, following the advice from numerous Veterinary behaviourists, as well as our own experience from the last eight years, we do not rehome females into homes with other female dogs.
All of our dogs are de-sexed, vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated
Puppies (2 months to 4 months) - $1000
Puppies (4 to 6 months) - $800
Adolescents (6 months to 1 year) - $700
Mature (1 year to 6 years) - $600
Senior (7 years plus) - $350
