About Betsy Moriarty
TO APPLY FOR ADOPTION PLEASE SEND IN APPLICATION FORM AVAILABLE BELOW:
https://www.victoriandogrescue.org.au/adopt/
Betsy is a bright and curious girl who is looking for a human bestie on
whom to bestow her love. During her time with us, sweet Betsy has
indicated that she is happiest when her human(s) are nearby while she
potters about the house and explores the garden. While Betsy loves being
close to her people, we suspect she may have been an outdoor dog in her
past home as she is somewhat tentative moving from indoors/outdoors and
toileting etiquette was something of a foreign concept to her. However,
she is well on her way to understanding outside is the best place to go.
Initially hesitant about wearing a harness and walking on a lead, Betsy
now looks forward to her daily walkies where she can sniff and
investigate the neighbourhood at her own pace. She is reactive to other
dogs and is best kept on a short lead making her unsuitable for off lead
areas or dog parks. We are sure patience will overcome this considering
that this was a dog who used to collapse to the ground as soon as she
saw the lead not too long ago.
Betsy is currently living with chickens and cats with whom she is
generally okay although things can get a bit exciting at meal times so
it's best everyone is fed separately.
Betsy gets a bit stressed when changes happen in her world but has
proven that with patience and routine her confidence isn't far behind.
Although she initially demonstrated anxiety such as crying and barking
when her carer went out, she is becoming accustomed to being on her own
so long as she has indoor/outdoor access. Her new companion will need to
establish a routine where Betsy can feel at ease when she is left alone.
Betsy has not had basic training but given her friendliness and desire
to connect with her people, she is a good candidate for training through
positive reinforcement. Training can be fun for all involved and is a
great way to build a bond with our new furry family members.
Betsy is likely to be happy in a variety of households where she has a
lot of human company, a calm environment with routines she can rely on,
and patient people who are willing to help her open up her world at a
pace that suits her. This will involve consistency and confidence
building through training that will help Betsy use her mental energy.
She would love to be someone's devoted companion and is not a candidate
for a full time working home. This gorgeous girl will blossom in the
right home. If you think that's yours, please complete an adoption
application.

All our dogs are desexed, C5 vaccinated with intranasal, microchipped,
wormed, and flea treated. All necessary vetwork such as dentals,
surgery, eye treatment are also carried out. We are no longer heartworm
testing as we have not had one positive test since we began in 2006. If
a dog comes to us on heartworm treatment this is continued.

Adoption details
We are a community fostercare network, not a shelter, and our dogs and cats are cared for in private homes. Note that we are very careful where we rehome our dogs and cats and we have an intensive process. If you want a quick turnaround we are not the group for you. If you seem like a good match for the dog of your choice we will organise a telephone chat, a meet and greet and a property check. We offer free assistance for six weeks for any issues, a lifetime takeback policy with full refund of the adoption fee, and will always be available to offer advice.
We care for our dogs and cats and we want you to as well. We know that genuine applicants have no trouble with this process and understand that if we refuse you a dog or cat, it is because you are not the best match for that pet.
Our commitment to the dogs and cats in our care is total and we treat each one as if we are passing on a family pet. This may not suit you so we point out that there are equally great dogs and cats available in pounds, shelters and with other rescue groups.

We look forward to receiving your application.
