Meet Octavia Octopus,
About: Look, we know you have questions about her name. Was she named after an eight-armed sea creature? Does she secretly have tentacles? Is she hiding an underwater lair somewhere? Honestly, we don’t have answers for you. But what we do have is the inside scoop on this delightful girl.
Octavia Octopus is gentle, friendly, happy, and - believe it or not - smart. Sure, sometimes she has what we like to call her ‘potato moments’ (you know, when the lights are on but no one’s home), but don’t let that fool you. Underneath her occasional spud-like behaviour lies a very bright little spark whose eager to learn & show you how clever she is.
She’s playful, social, excitable, and incredibly affectionate. New places and unfamiliar faces can sometimes make her a little nervous at first, but give her five minutes, a kind word, and maybe a tasty treat, and she’ll bounce back like it never happened.
Octavia would thrive in a calm and quiet home with an experienced owner who understands her quirks. But don’t let that fool you into thinking she’s all naps and cuddles - this girl loves her walks and adventures. If you’re an active person or family who enjoys exploring the great outdoors, she’ll happily tag along, tail wagging all the way.
So, if you’ve been searching for a gentle, goofy, and affectionate dog, Octavia Octopus might just be your perfect match. Tentacles not included (we think?).
Ideal Home: Octavia Octopus would be fine to live in a standalone house or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large yard & high, secure fencing.
Octavia would love to be able to spend time inside the home. However, she would be fine to be outside on her own without any issues, too. But she does love to be around people, so a family willing to let her inside would be ideal.
Family: Octavia Octopus is open to meet kids of any age - she is sweet & gentle, but kids should be mindful of her slight timidity when meeting new people. Octavia would be fine in a home with people who work full-time hours.
Furry Friends: Octavia Octopus is open to meet dogs. During her dog assessment she was very eager to meet & make friends from the very beginning. She was happy to engage, exchange licks & play. Octavia was able to alternate between rough play & submissive play. Octavia appears to cater her play style to the dog that she is with. But she will need to learn some manners & either be matched up with a dog that matches her play style or is tolerant of her play style.
As we cannot test in this environment, we are unsure how Octavia would go living with cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Octavia Octopus would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. Group classes would also be a great idea so that she can learn how to play with other dogs & extend on the dog social skills that she already has. With additional training, she could be the type of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café or social event. She can jump on occasion, especially when she is super excited, but she is responding to training regarding this behaviour.
Octavia is still learning her name, but knows commands like 'sit'. She is food motivated, choosing to always take treats from you gently, too.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Octavia has mid-range energy needs & would benefit from walking, play or exercise from 20-30mins per day to keep her happy. Octavia likes toys, she prefers to play with soft toys.
Octavia walks well on a lead but can pull sometimes, especially to points of interest. She is best to be walked with a harness for more control, or martingale.
Staff Comments: Octavia is a very happy & sweet girl. She has loads of potential in training & is an absolute delight to be around. She has the cutest wiggly little but which she likes to show off when she is happy.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
The adoption fee for dogs covers C3 vaccination, health check, heartworm testing, desexing, micro-chipping, and registration.
