Meet Dutch,
About: Dutch is a gentle soul wrapped in a velvety soft coat, here to softly nuzzle his way into your heart (and possibly your lap, if you'll let him). Dutch is one of those dogs who seems like he was designed in a cozy blanket factory - gentle, sweet, and with a personality as soft as freshly baked bread.
He’s the canine equivalent of your favourite comfort show: reliable, heart-warming, and occasionally a little shy when meeting new people or exploring unfamiliar places. But give him a moment (and maybe a treat or two), and he'll be leaning into you like you're his long-lost best friend.
Dutch thrives in a calm, quiet home with experienced dog owners who understand that sometimes, even the bravest of pups need a little reassurance. That said, he's also got a fun streak and would make an excellent adventure buddy for active families or individuals - just as long as there’s time for a cuddle break afterward.
His hobbies include: being ridiculously adorable, expertly curling up next to you for maximum snuggle efficiency, and gazing into your soul with those big, loving eyes. If you're looking for a dog who's equal parts adventure partner and professional cuddle expert, Dutch is your guy.
Ideal Home: Dutch would be fine to live in any property/dwelling type, as long as the yard is medium to large in size & that the fencing is high & secure.
Ideally Dutch would be able to spend more time inside the home than not. However, he would be fine to be outside on his own (on occasion) without any issues.
Family: Dutch is open to meet kids of any age - Dutch is super sweet & gentle, but should be mindful of his slight timidity meeting new people. Dutch would be fine in a home with people who work full-time hours.
Furry Friends: Dutch is open to meet dogs. During his dog assessment he was very attentive to his handler, as soon as he saw the other dog all he wanted to do was be friends. Play bows were exchanged, both dogs had a play & licked each others face. Dutch was very loose & content during the match up, but he has a puppy-like play style & sometimes played rough which might not be good for smaller, gentler dogs. Dutch at times (in general) can be a little timid when first meeting another dog, so he needs some time to warm up to his new surrounds/friend.
As we cannot test in this environment, we are unsure how Dutch would go living with cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Dutch would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. Group classes would also be a great idea so that Dutch can learn how to play with other dogs & extend on the dog social skills that he already has.
Dutch is still learning his name, but knows commands like 'sit'. Dutch is food motivated, choosing to always take treats from you gently, too.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Dutch has low to mid-range energy needs & would benefit from walking, play or exercise from 20-30mins per day to keep him content. Dutch shows minimal interest in toys, he prefers personal play/cuddles with his handlers. However, if he does want to play with a toy, he likes soft toys.
Dutch walks well on a lead but can start to zig-zag. He is best to be walked with a harness for more control.
Staff Comments: Dutch is a very sweet boy who only wants affection and security from people. He is a bit sensitive but will honestly make you smile & make you fall in love with him. He has so much love to give & would be a lovely addition to any family.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
