Meet Billie,
About: Are you looking for a dog who’s equal parts brilliant, independent, and occasionally allergic to productivity? Well, allow us to introduce Billie - a working breed gal who seems to have missed the "working" memo.
Billie is smart, curious, and will absolutely steal your heart (and possibly your devon cold cuts - fair warning). While she ticks all the boxes for brains and charm, she also has a "you can’t make me" energy when it comes to traditional working-dog expectations. Herding sheep? Nah. Herding snacks into her mouth? Absolutely!
Billie would thrive with experienced owners, especially those familiar with working breeds. Billie can be slightly sensitive in new environments/around new people at first but she recovers & befriends you very quickly.
Billie is best suited to a calm and quiet home where she can fully relax and be herself. However, don’t let her laid-back vibe fool you - Billie would also make an excellent companion for active families or individuals who enjoy adventures and outdoor activities.
Billie has got a gentle and friendly nature. She’s engaging, affectionate, and will have you smiling simply by existing in the same room.
Billie's overall chill demeanour only faults when you touch near her rear/back legs. Our vet has given her the all-clear after a thorough health check, so it’s not a health related issue - just a personal boundary. Respect her space back there, and she’ll reward you with endless affection and her signature goofy grin. So what happens if you accidently touch her no-no square? Billie will just move away, simple as that...
Ideal Home: Billie is best suited to live in a standalone house or on a farm/acerage, with a medium to large sized yard & high, secure fencing.
Billie would be fine to spend most time outdoors as she can easily entertain herself, but spending time indoors with her new family would be a lovely way for Billie to feel like part of the family.
Family: Billie is happy to meet kids of any age - just be mindful of smaller children, as she loves giving kisses and might surprise them with one on their cheek! Billie would be fine in a home with people who work full-time hours.
Furry Friends: Billie is best to be the only dog in the home. During her dog assessment Billie showed us that she is able to walk past other dogs without any issues but she isn't set on being their friend. She becomes avoidant around other dogs, indicating that they make her feel uncomfortable.
As we cannot test in this environment, we are unsure how Billie would go living with cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners. Please keep in mind her working breed lineage which may play a part in her attitude towards smaller animals...
Training & Development: Billie would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience.
Billie appears to know her name and she knows commands like 'sit' & 'down'. Billie is also toilet trained. Billie is somewhat food motivated, she appears to really like devon as her choice of treat & she takes treats from you gently too.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Billie has mid-range energy needs & would benefit from walking, play or exercise from 20-30mins per day to keep her happy & content. Billie isn't really interested in toys. She prefers to engage with her handlers in personal play or training.
Billie walks beautifully on a lead with very minimal pulling. She is fine to be walked on any walking apparatus.
Staff Comments: Billie is known to be very chill considering that she is a working breed mix. Billie is affectionate & loves to have her belly rubbed. She can be slightly sensitive in new environments/around new people but she recovers very quickly.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
