Tormaigh is a red heeler who is fairly typical of his breed. Although not high energy as such, he loves a game of fetch and will play that for as long as you want to throw a tennis ball.
He’s a neat medium size fellow that keeps himself trim with ball games and play. Initially he was in foster care with young female cattle dog mix & staffy x dogs as well as 3 dog savvy cats that he like to chase at every chance. He also a 9yo male border collie who had disinterested disposition, but made the mistake of challenging the female mentor dog’s place in the pecking order which resulted in a few not serious stouches.
He would be happy as an only dog or with dog friends. He is fine with younger, playful female dogs with similar energy levels, but after some training in the kennels he’s currently at, he is now playing with all size/ sex dogs and even lies on his back to play, which shows he is not feeling he needs to be alpha anymore.
He is a good boy generally and his carer made time to have a fetch session each day, even if it was in between doing yard duty. He will entertain himself after a while or when its clear the games are over. He would love a decent walk daily for exercise, bonding and ball games at the park. He can be left outside without being destructive, but did bark at unfamiliar noises at first, protecting the home against noises he didn’t have visual of the source of. Water spray deterred this behaviour.
He is toilet trained and slept in the loungeroom on the couch, carpet or kitchen floor when hot and there was no problems with him destroying anything whilst there. He had a bed in his crate but chose to sleep elsewhere.
He was moved to a new carer due to the dog political issues, and didn’t like an alpha male foster there either. He was then sent up to the kennels where he has received some training and by all reports, has turned over a new leaf. We believe the testosterone was still very present when all this was happening as he was desexed on arrival. He has been in the kennels since Christmas so has had a few months to get that out of his system and is now happy of the company of other dogs.
He loves the hose and shell pool so is easy to cool down on a hot day if you simply hose your plants while he attacks the water.
Tormaigh (pronounced Tor-mik) loves a cuddle and gives excellent kisses too. He doesn’t take long to bond to the ones that spend time with him and feed him and really is a great dog.
He was displaced at an early age and being a cattle dog, would have been attached to whoever owned him. He’s had time spent on him, catching balls and following commands and relatively well behaved though can be distracted by things like cats!
His name means Thunder Spirit and conjures the image of a strong, loyal, carefree doggo who has a cheeky smile that only highlights how very handsome he is.
Tormaigh is a great dog who needs to find his person/people now. His training has finished and he is so ready to get out of the kennels and find a home and a heart that needs him. Is it you he’s looking for? Don’t hesitate any longer then! Apply now! He’s waiting for you!
