About Vela
Have you been following the journey of our adorable little black and white Princess Vela on Facebook?
If you have you are aware that this bundle of fluff was surrendered to BARC at just 14 weeks of age after her owners decided that they couldn't meet the needs of this energetic little Border Collie.
Being vet checked, behavioral assessed, dog tested and prepared for adoption all while her Facebook fans watched on eagerly, little Vela is now available for adoption and ready to start her journey becoming a much loved inclusive family member.
Seeking a home prepared and ready for the joy of owning a working dog breed, intelligent, eager to please, active and a desire to be busy whilst being a much loved member of a family home. Perfect for a multi dog home with another well adjusted and calm individual able to cope with all the attentions of a young puppy, Vella would also love some dog savvy human siblings to play and interact with.
Little Vela here is still young, but shown great skills and quickly picked up the basics of obedience training, coming when called, sitting when asked and walking on a lead. There is however more work to be done to ensure this girl is well schooled in doggy behavior and etiquette.
Coming into the shelter a little timid, Vela quickly recovers from any initial jitters and is willing to explore and interact with new things in this great big world, she will require continued slow introductions to new environments, places and things to ensure she becomes a confident and all round dog.
Vela has been introduced to other dogs whilst in our care and appreciates those with a kind, gentle approach to interactions. She quickly finds her feet and will initiate play with most individuals and loves playing tug o war and chase the ball, we say chase as she has yet mastered the art of returning it. With slow introductions and some initial supervised play Vela could also be a great advocate for a feline friend.
If you are keen to welcome this little girl into your home, ready for all that owning a bundle of cute puppy entails and committed to continue with her development.
To book a meet and greet with Vela please phone 5441-2209 or email barcreception@bendigo.vic.gov.au . Due to the high volume of emails received, enquiries with a request for a specific appointment with phone details included will receive a response as priority over generic applications which state they are interested in meeting an animal.

Adoption details
BARC adoption officers will work with you to help you find a dog or cat that matches your needs, they will discuss things like yard fencing, exercise requirements, other pets and family members, lifestyle factors, and breed experience. To help make this as quick and easy as possible, we ask you complete and adoption questionnaire (located on our website, or you can complete on when you visit). This helps ensure that we are introducing you to the most suitable animals we have available.
We encourage all members of the household to attend a meet and greet with a pet prior to adopting an animal. If the animal being adopted is a dog, we will also require existing dogs in the household to attend the shelter as part of the meet and greet.
Holds can not be placed on animals over the phone, and can only be applied at the discretion of management.
