Meet Posey!

Posey has become a favourite with staff at the Lost Dogs Home, she has also become an assistant in the behaviour team to help other dogs build their confidence up!

After being in the shelter for some time, it was becoming evident she needed more one-on-one assistance with our behaviour program to help with her overall confidence and to learn new skills on how to regulate her emotions if she was feeling stressed or overstimulated. Posey being her sweet, soft natured self she was more inhibited and wouldn't expressively show her emotions. When she was able to show those emotions, arousal levels would suddenly peak and would result in excessively jumping on people as a stress release.

Posey is now able to regulate herself and will alert her handler if she's feeling uncomfortable in an appropriate and manageable way. She has been shown a range of enrichment strategies, toys and activities to interact with, which she enjoys! Initially she was uncomfortable with people handling her and avoidant. With the help of her trainer, she has now learnt that meeting new people is exciting and wants to approach to say hello to everyone! Her smirk and soft approach lures everyone in for cuddles.

Posey would be suited to a home that has older children or adults, she's still learning to not jump on people when saying hello, and she unknowingly doesn't realise that she can be rough when doing this. She loves dogs so if you have a dog at home who needs a friend, please bring them with you! Posey would benefit a household who is home more regularly throughout the day as she enjoys her human interaction and would love day trips to the beach or parks. She would prefer to live in a quieter environment with less external noise in the background.
