About Dex

Dex is a stunning 16-month-old long stock coat German Shepherd who is looking for a forever home due to no fault of his own.
Dex is a typical big puppy that has been left out in the backyard with no training or effort put into him, he has little in the way of manners and is bored and under stimulated, meaning that he gets very over-excited and is lacking impulse control. Dex will jump up to say hello and to gain your attention, he needs to learn how to appropriately interact with humans, learning to keep all 4 paws on the ground.
Dex would accidentally knock over small children, he loves kids but has no concept of how to appropriately play and interact. Dex is looking for a home where everyone is over the age of 8 years old, everyone must have experience living with a boisterous, large breed dog.
Dex is a big goofball that is craving attention and affection, he loves spending time with his humans and is a typical ‘German Shadow’ that will follow you around everywhere. Whilst Dex has always been an outdoor dog, he would love to be welcomed inside and included as part of the family.
Dex knows how to sit, but this is the extent of his training, he is a bit of a scatter brain right now, unable to focus due to the excitement of being interacted with when someone comes out into the yard. Dex enjoys treats and will need to be taught how to learn, shaping with treats and lots of positive fun games will get Dex’s mind working and him picking up new skills in no time at all. Dex would eventually do well attending group obedience classes so that he can practice impulse control and build up his ability to focus under distraction.
Dex has not been walked very often and doesn’t have much experience with the outside world, everything is new, distracting and exciting… Dex literally barks at and chases butterflies, his world has been so small for so long. Dex needs someone committed to slowly exposing him to the outside world, he has a sweet, almost innocent temperament, nothing bad has happened to him yet, he is like a 12-week-old puppy in an adult body that needs lots of positive experiences so that he can build his confident and learn to navigate the world around him.
Dex gets very excited when he does get to go out for a walk, he pulls, zigzags and is completely overstimulated sniffing anything and everything he can, he will need someone very patient that has the time to engage Dex and train him each and every day.
Dex has not interacted with other dogs, when he does see them, he gets very frustrated and confused and will let out high pitched barking whilst jumping up and down and lunging forward wanting to say hello. Dex is not showing aggression, just pure inexperience and rudeness, not knowing how to appropriately interact. Dex will need to work on this with his new family, his goal is to walk calmly past other dogs and be able to ignore them.
Dex may be able to be introduced to another dog and live with them, he would likely benefit from an older dog to be his role model… however Dex will likely be quite full on and rude initially, his new owner will need to have space to separate Dex from any resident dogs and slowly integrate them overtime. Dex would also be fine as the only dog in his new home, he has not been tested with cats or other small animals.
Dex is a young shepherd that will need plenty of exercise both physically and mentally to ensure he doesn’t get into mischief and is a well-rounded dog. Dex is looking for an active family that will engage with him in training sessions and games to get his mind working, he would also love to be given enrichment toys and puzzles to keep him occupied when he is left alone.
Dex is a real people dog who loves to play and cuddle, he just wants to be with you. Dex is a goofy boy that loves splashing in water, doing zoomies and of course… chasing butterflies!

Adoption details
We offer a 'Foster to Adopt' program. This means that the dog will go to live with their adoptive family for 4 weeks to ensure it is the perfect match for both the dog and new family. After the 4 weeks is complete, if all has gone well, the adoption is formalised and your new doggy companion is officially yours!
If you are interested in adopting from us, we ask that you fill out the Adoption Application form on our website (via the link provided below) with as much detail as possible, including the name of the dog you are interested in.
We do not rehome female dogs to a home where there is an existing female dog. Whilst there are always exceptions, it is generally unwise to have two females together; two males can sort it out, a male and a female can sort it out, but when two females fight, the results can be disastrous. For this reason, following the advice from numerous Veterinary behaviourists, as well as our own experience from the last eight years, we do not rehome females into homes with other female dogs.
All of our dogs are de-sexed, vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated
Puppies (2 months to 4 months) - $1000
Puppies (4 to 6 months) - $800
Adolescents (6 months to 1 year) - $700
Mature (1 year to 6 years) - $600
Senior (7 years plus) - $350
