About Captain
Captain is a 24kg lap dog with a beautiful temperament. He is such a people lover and loves being around people of all ages. Captain will take all the pats and cuddles you have to offer him. He loves to be around you, no matter what you are doing, lying on his mat watching you cook or sleeping beside your feet while you work at the computer. Captain is a very well-rounded dog. He knows how to chill around the home but is keen to be involved in any of the activities on offer as well.
This stunning boy is extremely resilient. Before coming into care, he suffered some form of injury to his front leg that was never given veterinary treatment. X-rays showed that Captain had multiple broken bones in his carpus (wrist) and a nasty wound on the bottom of his foot. He has had specialist orthopaedic surgery to stabilise and straighten his leg and clean up his wound. Everything is on the mend and healing. In the end, he will have a slightly altered gait but will end up with a functioning leg that won’t cause him future issues. The only thing Captain would benefit from is being on some form of joint supplement daily for the rest of his life.
While in care, Captain has lived both with another dog and by himself. He is very dog social and loves the company of other dogs. Playtime with his friends puts a big smile on his face. Captain would be a great match with another calm and friendly dog who wouldn’t mind the occasional game but who is also happy to just chill out in good company. Otherwise, there is no issue for Captain to live as an only dog who can have some regular playtime with some nice doggy friends. He will need some nice daily exercise in his new home to keep him healthy and happy throughout his life.
Captain is such good company and a pleasure to have around the home. He already has good basic manners at home being toilet and crate trained. Captain sleeps throughout the night in his crate without a peep, is not a barker and is not destructive. His foster carers have appropriately introduced him to spending time alone each day for short periods and he has no issue staying home alone for a few hours. In fact, when they check the camera, he is just sprawled out somewhere having a nap! His new owner(s) should have the capacity to ensure he is settled in properly and it would be best if you are home more often than not as he is a true companion dog who gets a lot of pleasure from just being by your side. Captain is a great traveller in the car and gets a big happy grin whenever you pick up the keys. He is keen to jump in so he can accompany you on whatever adventure you might be going on.
Captain is an intelligent dog who is food motivated and a fast learner. He knows how to sit on command and learning to wait for his food. Captain has been on restricted exercise since his surgery, so he can be a little excited on the lead at the moment. Despite his foster carers not being able to focus on this training due to his surgery recovery, he has been improving. His new owner(s) will need to continue this training, but we do not expect it to take this smart boy too long to work it out. Captain is the type of dog who you can take anywhere with you – pubs, cafes, markets – so we really want to see him loose lead walking and being able to get out and enjoy all the good things that life has to offer. Captain is a very adaptable dog who settled very quickly into his foster home and develops a loving bond with his people. This boy is such a smoocher and will cuddle with you on the lounge as much as you would like!
We are looking for a dog savvy home for Captain where he will be a loved member of the family and included in the daily outings. He can live with children as he is great with them and unfazed by their energy. Captain’s ideal home will have a yard for him to enjoy, but this could be flexible if his physical and mental needs are met. Regardless, he will need to be allowed inside to be with his family and will need a warm comfy bed inside to sleep on at night. This gorgeous boy brings such a bright light with him wherever he goes. Captain has shown such resilience in his life, and it has never caused his beautiful nature to waiver. Whoever gets to adopt this boy is going to be very lucky indeed.

Don't see a breed attached to one of our dogs? That's because we don't breed label dogs of unknown genetic history. We can't guess at breeds but that's okay, because we can tell you about the dog's individual personality, character, and behaviour.
