Kylani had a bit of a rough start to life and came into rescue with two “cherry eyes” which are a 3rd eyelid/tear duct issue where they are inside out. She had these corrected with an operation that often needs re-doing, but after 2 weeks of uncomplicated healing she has been given the thumbs up by the vet as a success.
Kylani is a sweet, smoochy girl with a typical staffy happy disposition. She is in care with 4 other dogs, all of which are cattle dogs of varying breeds and ages and has enjoyed playing with the 3 younger dogs every day, wrestling and chasing, chewing sticks, hoofs and bones together in the shade, cooling paws in the shell pool on hot days, and surviving a couple of exploding beds. She is toilet trained providing she has access to the yard, and as long as she goes for a toilet run just before bed, she can last the night.
She is crate trained and eats and sleeps in the crate but was allowed to sleep in her carers bed for a couple of nights while they settled a new foster in and was the perfect bed hog with snuffalugalus snoring as well. Until then, she had been sleeping in her crate and if not allowed out to toilet late, she would use her crate. She is still becoming used to the idea that the lawn is a place to go as she tends to look for solid ground which makes us think she was kept inside previously. She’s getting the hang of it but her carer is happy she goes outside and knows in time she will work out where is appropriate in her new home, particularly following the lead of a resident dog.
She is a loving dog who spends most of her day playing with her mates and entertaining herself. She has no problem with being left outside when her carer is out, and if she is alone she will happily use the kennels provided. She is known to take herself into her crate for a lie down at night or on hot days when she’s inside enjoying the aircon, otherwise she will share the couch with other dogs or pinch her best friend’s arm chair spot (or even squeeze in to share). She gets along with all of the dogs and has taken a shine to the new male red heeler, with a little swagger in her walk when she’s strolling the yard with him.
Kylani’s ideal home will include a resident mentor dog that is around her size, age and energy level. Though she is happy to play with her mates, she also will keep herself occupied if she’s in the yard with the old dogs who aren’t up for zoomies. She’s the one who gets along with everyone and doesn’t have any annoying traits among them. They all love her.
She would make the perfect family dog as her breed is renowned for being one, however an active couple would also suit. She would benefit from puppy school with new owners while she is still in that age bracket, but if her new people are confident, she is very smart and treat motivated and would enjoy learning anything people wanted to spend some time teaching her. She loves other dogs and is social so that should be encouraged to continue. She would love doggy day care if her people worked, to keep her socialised and to burn off her energy having fun.
She is a good girl who, only rarely when excited, jumps up, but corrects herself immediately and sits. She is probably around the height she will always be, with filling out probably to happen over the next 12-14 months, but she’s a compact dog and perfect size for kids.
Kylani would love to be with people who include her in their lives and activities and who will commit to continue her training until she is the best dog she can be. She would probably prefer a male dog as a housemate/mentor, to make the perfect couple however she has been besties with her carer’s female bc/heeler and with the new male heeler foster equally. Sometimes two females don’t work so unless your dog is one of those happy, friendly and unphased type female dogs, a male would be preferred.
If you would love to invite this velvety soft, sweet, smoochie, cheeky, wiggly bum girl into yours and your dog’s life, please apply and tell her why she would love to live with you and that she will be the best Christmas present you’ve ever had.
