PROFILE AND NEEDS IN A HOME
Jolene came from a home where she did not get much socialisation with people and little or no socialisation in the world outside home.
Due to Jolene's previous environment, she can be timid when first meeting new people and in new environments. However, given just a bit of time she has shown that she is able to adapt, and her loving and affectionate side starts to come through. Once settled, Jolene is the kind of loyal friend who becomes one with her human family. From the moment she became part of her foster carer's family, Jolene showcased her incredible capacity for love and kinship, despite her start in life, as they gave her the time and space initially to feel safe and comfortable.
Jolene has not been introduced to young children yet, but given her calm and patient nature, we believe she would be suited to older children over the age of 10 years provided they were kind and gentle with animals and understand and respect her initial need for personal space.
Jolene is currently in care with two older cross shih tzu type dogs, Tilly and Dolly, who have been showing her the ropes on how to live in a home environment and giving her confidence when she is outside of the home.
When comfortable, Jolene enjoys the companionship of both people and dogs alike. She is happiest with another dog to follow and cuddle up with, and finds comfort in her furry friends, becoming more confident when Tilly and Dolly are around when meeting new people and other dogs. As such Jolene must be rehomed with another small to small/medium dog who is a friendly, playful, well-adjusted dog. Her new fur sibling must be up for playing silly dog games.
Jolene has not shown anxiety when her foster carers leave her alone with their dogs for short periods of time of up to 4 hours, so would be ok being left for shorter periods of time once settled
Jolene enjoys running around outdoors and still being a pup she has boundless energy. As such needs a reasonably active home where she will get out for at least two decent walks a day.
Jolene is still cautious in crowded and busy areas, she appreciates a cuddle to boost her confidence. Quiter areas are best to start with, and it is very important to make sure she is not overwhelmed in these situations, paying careful attention to her body language to ensure that she continues to have positive interactions in the world outside of the home and improve her confidence in the outside world as the days and weeks go by.
Jolene is exceptionally curious about new sounds and smells and can't resist chasing after birds, so perhaps she is not suited to a home pet birds.
She has had several visits to a leash free dog park and enjoyed running around with other dog of her own size.
Jolene does show signs of some anxiety in the car, however this is improving with each trip in the car, so it is important for her new owner to continue these shorter trips to start with fun places so that Jolene will become more comfortable in the car with time.
Playtime with Jolene has been a joy. She is learning how to engage with other dogs and enjoys “play” fighting until the other dogs let her know “that’s enough”.
At night, she is perfectly content on the lounge while the family watches television then she loves snuggling in bed with the family. Therefore, a household where she has full access indoors would suit her best.
In short, Jolene isn't just searching for a house; she is in search of a home filled with love, joy, companionship from both humans and dogs that will respect her initial need for personal space, giving her the time she needs to settle in.
If you think you could offer her just that, Jolene is ready to shower you with affection in return.
If you would like to meet Jolene please send us some information on yourself and the home you are able to provide including your dog and any other pets (if any), family members, lifestyle, exercise, how often Jolene would be alone, where she will have access in the home, where Jolene would go if you went away and could not take her with you, ability to cover vet expenses and any other information you wish to provide would like to you and Jolene are a good match
