About Mona
Mona is a stunning 6 year old harlequin female Great Dane. She currently lives on property and can coexist with stock if kept in separate areas or under supervision. Mona is a strong fit girl who is curious and full of character. She craves love and will take as many cuddles as she can get, even getting a little pushy for affection or trying her luck with a bit back chat to convince you of more! She loves kids although she has not lived with them and due to being excitable, Mona would be best with older children to save the little ones from her weapon of a tail.
The mothering instinct is quite strong with Mona, she’s had ducklings climb all over her...they may have got a little soggy from the licking! She does well in a quiet calm environment inside the home with cats, but outside she can get a little excited and may need to be reminded not to chase.
Mona walks well on lead in the correct position and does not pull. She loves car rides, going for a walk and a run around as well as a bit of fetch. She’s not high energy anymore even though she prefers to trot rather than walk everywhere she goes, and will take whatever length of walk is on offer each day. She knows how to drop and will stay for a short period of time and comes when she’s told to. Mona’s current owners have put considerable effort into teaching her what’s expected of her. Being a strong-willed girl, Mona will attempt to take advantage of some situations. Tone of voice is usually all she needs to be reminded of what she should or shouldn’t be doing but most of the time she is respectful and responsive.
Mona has learnt to be tied up in her current environment for her own safety at times and can do so without going silly, however she gets anxious if you are going in and out of sight. She’s learned to stay put in a car when needed for a reasonable period before getting too anxious. Mona will hide from bath time but sucks it up when the time comes, then rewards herself with some crazy zoomies around the yard after being let free.
Mona loves being inside with her people and is toilet trained. She will also happily take herself outside to spend a little time. Whilst Mona will alert bark a lot when visitors are approaching, she loves a pat from anyone. Upon return of her people after being left, she shows how much she’s missed them by chattering her teeth which is particularly cute. Mona waits patiently for her dinner and eats after she’s told she can. She’s a delicate eater enjoying every mouthful and accepting of her food being taken away if needed. After dinner she loves to curl up for a nap or suck on her dum dum blankie.
Mona has coexisted with other dogs but always insists on being top dog. To ensure a harmonious home we will be placing her as an only dog, this is where she’s truly relaxed. It will take Mona some time to settle into a new home and cope with being left alone. With a new owner who is clear on what the rules are, Mona will be the most incredible loveable giant-sized companion anyone could ask for.
