About Decker
Introducing Decker!
Decker is a German Shepherd born 29th January 2023.
Decker was brought in to the facility as a microchipped stray, however the details were very much out of date and no owner came looking for him. He was found in a known dumping area and he was severely underweight.
Since being at the facility he's slowly started putting on weight and has been an over-all delight to work with. He knows how to sit & lay down and he walks quite well on lead. We believe he's previously had a male owner as he's very responsive to our male volunteers. He's very food motivated and eager to please, so continued training shouldn't be problem. While he does jump up in excitement with staff, he's responsive when told "no".
Decker tested well with other dogs and is quite playful but gentle with them. We believe Decker would be suitable to live with other dogs, or be a spoilt "only child" at home. If you have a friendly dog at home we will need to do a meet & greet with them to ensure they get along before going home.
Decker tested fairly well with cats. We feel that he could be suitable to live with cats, if given a slow & controlled introduction to them.
Decker does show signs of prey drive with pocket pets, so he will need to be rehomed with no small animals like chickens & rabbits.
He still has so much to learn about the world and would love to be in a home where he is included as a member of the family. Decker will thrive in an environment that guides him with positive direction and lots of love and attention.
Decker has shown no signs of separation anxiety or food aggression since being at the facility.
Decker's adoption fee is $500 and includes his desexing & lifetime registration. Decker is also regularly treated for flea and worms and is up to date with his vaccinations.

Adoption details
If you are interested in adopting one of our animals, please contact us on 0499 900 272.
Staff will ask more about your lifestyle and the information you provide will helps us to achieve the best match between the dog or cat and their new home. We will also have certain adoption requirements that have to be approved prior to meeting the animal (eg fencing requirements, no young kids, etc)
Once all of your questions have been answered and adoption requirements met and approved, its time to meet your potential new furbaby. This meet will be conducted at the shelter in the Hunter Valley.
Should you have an existing dog in your life, we will require a meet and greet to ensure that they get along.
The final step (pending agreement by both parties) is the payment of the adoption fee and filling in of associated paperwork for your new furbaby.
Congratulations, you have now saved a life!
