About Lilo

Experienced owners

Kids (any age)
Dog selective (confidence)
Meet Lilo,
About: Lilo is a gentle and sensitive soul who’s perfect for first-time dog owners. Quiet and agreeable by nature, she’s the kind of companion who loves being around people and brings a warm presence to any home. Despite her initial reservations, Lilo’s friendly personality shines through, and she’s proven to be a smart and curious pup. Once she warms up to you, her playful and social side comes alive, showing just how affectionate and engaging she can be. Lilo is ready to share her heart with someone special - could that be you?
Lilo is adaptable & is fine to live in any household environment. Lilo would make an excellent choice for active families too, as she would love to go on walks, hikes, or any adventure with her new family.
Ideal Home: Lilo is fine to live in any property type/dwelling, and yard size is of no concern either, just as long as the fencing is high & secure.
Lilo would best suit a home that allows her to be inside more often than not as she thrives being around people.
Family: Lilo is open to meet kids of any age. Lilo is also suitable to live with people who work full-time hours. We have seen no signs of separation anxiety.
Furry Friends: Lilo is dog selective. She has a very gentle & sensitive nature & she wasn't very confident in her dog assessment. We could see that she was a little nervous meeting the other dog but was very attentive to her handler. She is very good walking past other dogs. She was happy to meet the other dog, they exchanged sniffs & face licks. She had a loose body & was wagging her tail excitedly. When she is comfy, she will also offer play bows. When the other dog got rough with play, Lilo backed away & was upset by this. If living with another dog, Lilo will need a dog that will be gentle & respect her & give her space. She needs to build her confidence too.
As we cannot test in this environment, we are unsure how Lilo would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owner.
Training & Development: Lilo would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience, and group/puppy classes to learn manners & to develop her dog social skills & build her confidence. Lilo may also jump up on you, but this is because she craves your affection.
With additional training, Lilo could be the type of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café, or social event. She just needs additional time to settle & build her confidence first.
Lilo is still learning her name, but she knows commands such as 'sit' but she is still young & is still learning. Lilo is food motivated, and when she takes treats from you, she does so gently.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Lilo has mid-range energy, and would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 20-30mins every 2-3 day to keep her happy. Lilo loves to play with soft toys but prefers personal play with her human friends.
Lilo walks well on lead, with no pulling. Lilo is fine to be walked on any walking apparatus.
Staff Comments: Lilo is a very sweet & affectionate girl. She wants to be around you more than anything else, and when she warms up to you. her playful puppy side shines through. She loves all food & treats, & soft toys.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
