About Baxter
Hi, Hey you! Yep you – don’t scroll past – if you’re looking for a goofy fun loving guy – I’m it!!
I am a young fun loving cheeky boy who at 1 years and 8 month old is ready to take on the world!
Hi, I'm Baxter and I am a Cavalier King Charles
So hold on your hats this is a little bit of a read but I'm very worth it......... I came into care because I had been attacked by some nasty wild dogs while a couple of other dogs and the vet clinic said that they recommended euthanasia based on my injuries. My owner reached out to the director of the rescue who said let’s take him to our vets and assess and do our best to save him.
I was rushed to their vets where my injuries were looked at - I had a horrific wound on my leg and no one knew if I would lose my leg or if I would recover. I had dog bites over my ears and then ear infections, I had dog bites on my neck and buttocks and i was facing a serious risk of infection to many wounds that might make everything go pear shaped..... but the vets took such good care of me.
After five weeks of living at the vets with lot of vet stuff (lots of bandage changes, surgeries to stitch up some of the wound, recover and rest) I was allowed to start coming home on the weekends - the vets and the nurses always had a smile when they speak of me and the fact that no matter how much pain or discomfort or how many bandage changes I had I always had a smile on my face, kisses for anyone and a wag of my tail.!
I started to come home each weekend and hang out at my foster mum's house - I was originally supposed to stay calm and quiet and not socialise with other dogs while I rested.......... but because I’m such a social boy who loves other dogs and people that didn't work really well so my foster mum had to do a lot of movie watching on weekends for me to be able to join with the other dogs and sit and be calm - I loved it!!!!
Three more weeks of weekend visits and a couple more surgeries and I was done - my leg was healed and my other wounds were healed and then I was bounced out of vet hospital and on my way to my foster mums home full time!
My foster mum says I'm a pretty special boy with my sweet personality, zest for life and loving nature (my foster mum has said that she believes I survived my injuries because of my happy go / love everyone and everything nature).
My foster mum says that despite the horrific attack that I experienced I still love other dogs and love to play and snuggle with them and would love a home with another dog to play with.
I am a typical dog who just loves his humans and everything I do is a twinkle in my eye and a smile on my lips - life is so much fun!
My leg is now healed (I do have a small scar - but hey chicks dig scars yeah? )
My ear, neck, leg and buttock wounds have all healed - one of my ears has some bald patches but I am alive and my love for life makes up for all of what I went thru.
I love to spend my day playing with other dogs, hanging out with my humans and genuinely just loving of life - I currently live with other furkids of all ages / sizes and temperaments and I love hanging out with all of them.
I spend my days alternating between being inside and outside, playing and snoozing. My motto is to play hard but then sleep even harder!
I will also require a home where there is some space to run around and play outside, a family that will incorporate me into their lifestyle and be active with me.
I am not tested with cats and again this really could go either way - so we will say no cats at the home for the safe side.
I am good with kids but can get excited and jump up on them but it's only to get closer to say hi to them!
Currently my foster mum works 3 days at home and 2 days in the office and that is a good mix for me - the days she is home I like to sleep and play and then the days she’s at work - I tell her I sleep a lot and just wait for her to come home, she tells me she knows when I have been energy conservative as when she gets home I give her a huge welcome and wiggle and spin around all excited
My foster mum has said that I’m hilarious at dinner time as I do love to do spins and show how excited I am to be having dinner - I love food and that can be helpful in my continued training.
I work well on a lead but will sit for a treat however I can get distracted if asked to stay sitting for too long - my foster mum mentions something about if she could bottle my energy she would be rich (what a weird thing for her to say hey?) She reckons I could easily be a dog who goes on hikes or long walks with my family.
I would love to sleep on the bed with you but at the moment as my foster mum says even while sleeping I can wiggle that I sleep with the other dogs at the home, normally either on the couch or on a dog bed.
I am toilet trained and know how to go thru a doggy door.
I would love a home where home life is fun and happy and no one minds my zest for life and a fur best friend

Once an adoption enquiry is completed our admin team will assess the application and if successful we will arrange for a meet and greet to be completed. We may also request photos of your yard for consideration of your application. Please note that we will do no more than 3 meet and greets per dog.
Approved applicants will be contacted to arrange a time for a meet & greet via email. You must bring your current dog along to the meeting if you are meeting another dog/puppy, this is to ensure they get along before commencing adoption - proof of your dogs up-to-date vaccination is required before any meet and greet is arranged.
Our adoption fee must be cleared in our bank account before any animal is available for pick up. Please note we bank with ANZ - any other bank may take 48 hours to process the monies.
Paw Prints Canine Rescue has a 10 day trial period – this basically means that if for any reason the adoption does not work out and the dog needs to be returned to us, the adoption fee minus an admin fee (minimum is $250) will be returned to the adoptees via bank transfer within 7 working days.
Please note that if an interstate adoption needs to be returned or regional adoption all transport cost with be paid by the adopter.
Please also note while this can be a very exciting time for everyone, it can also be an overwhelming time for dogs and we ask that you do try and allow your new family member to settle in their new home and adjust
INTERSTATE ADOPTIONS **
Any transport costs are to be paid by the adopting family, however we can assist you in helping with transport to airports etc.
** Please note some of our dogs are not available for interstate adoption
AFTER THE TRIAL PERIOD
After the 10 day trial period is completed Paw Prints Canine will send out all relevant paperwork for your new furbaby via email including the transfer of microchip form.
