About Dorothy
Watch out world Dorothy is now ready to be adopted and find her furever home!
What can we say about Dorothy .....................
Actually, let's let Dorothy tell her story.......
Hey, how's it going? My name is Dorothy and i am a West Highland White Terrier and I am 5 years and 9 months old.
I came into care a few months ago from a breeder who wasn't the greatest and as soon as the rescue picked me up luckily, they knew something was not right and I was in trouble with my health
When the rescue came to pick me up i was scared and unsure and was trying to protect another dog that was also scared but coming into care.
The rescue brought me in and the very first thing they did was bath me (three times - I absolutely stunk and the rescue said that they weren't even sure I was white when they first saw me). They did this to ensure that any health issues that were visible would be able to be seen............... unfortunately, it was internal - you know girl's stuff.............. sooooo
The rescue took me to the vet and yep I of course was in big trouble and had Pyometra (this is a serious and potentially life-threatening infection of the uterus that causes it to fill with bacteria and pus - sorry about that information) so straight in for surgery and once I was desexed this was sorted but let me tell you know it's not a cheap surgery when pyometra is involved but the rescue were awesome and said I was worth it!
So, I then went home to recover with my foster mum, my foster mum said I still had a 'stink on my coat' but we had to wait for my body to heal - she still gave me cuddles and told me how loved I already was!
So, I recovered from my surgery and yep baths for me!!! I'm good with a bath but I'm not a fan of having my nails cut so my foster mum has to get creative with the rewards and distractions.
Once I recovered from my surgery my foster mum said my personality came out - apparently (and don't believe it for a second) I am a confident, loving, cheeky, sassy little one that will make you laugh at my antics and sometimes my sass
I love love love to be in the house snoozing on the couch / bed / human or even on my foster fur brother - he doesn't mind.
I currently have two foster siblings, and I love to follow one around all the time - I am her little shadow and she says she doesn't mind, I would love a dog companion especially if you're out and we can stay home and guard the couch and make sure if we sleep on it, it won't blow away while you're gone. So yeah, a friend would be good
My foster mum has said I have some selective hearing, but I remind her I came from a yuck place and I'm loving and living life to the full these days - but I always do it with a smile and a tail wag!
I have been known to be a bit of a back seat driver when I think you need it while driving but I still do it with a smile on my face and fun in my body!
I absolutely love life and believe it should be lived to the fullest with my cheeky smile and play time and then nap time.
At nighttime I love to cuddle up either on the couch, in my humans bed or in my circle dog bed somedays I like to change it up
I am toilet trained.
I currently live with other dogs of all sizes and ages and personalities
I am great with kids - I mean how could I not - they love me
My foster mum has said that cats shouldn’t be a problem either – I won’t chase them she says it's because I probably won't notice them
My ideal home will be with someone who is home more often than not or who works from home, shift work etc whilst I might be older I am still living life to the fullest and would love to do that with you.
I do have a coat that needs to be groomed and I love to smell good!

Once an adoption enquiry is completed our admin team will assess the application and if successful we will arrange for a meet and greet to be completed. We may also request photos of your yard for consideration of your application. Please note that we will do no more than 3 meet and greets per dog.
Approved applicants will be contacted to arrange a time for a meet & greet via email. You must bring your current dog along to the meeting if you are meeting another dog/puppy, this is to ensure they get along before commencing adoption - proof of your dogs up-to-date vaccination is required before any meet and greet is arranged.
Our adoption fee must be cleared in our bank account before any animal is available for pick up. Please note we bank with ANZ - any other bank may take 48 hours to process the monies.
Paw Prints Canine Rescue has a 10 day trial period – this basically means that if for any reason the adoption does not work out and the dog needs to be returned to us, the adoption fee minus an admin fee (minimum is $250) will be returned to the adoptees via bank transfer within 7 working days.
Please note that if an interstate adoption needs to be returned or regional adoption all transport cost with be paid by the adopter.
Please also note while this can be a very exciting time for everyone, it can also be an overwhelming time for dogs and we ask that you do try and allow your new family member to settle in their new home and adjust
INTERSTATE ADOPTIONS **
Any transport costs are to be paid by the adopting family, however we can assist you in helping with transport to airports etc.
** Please note some of our dogs are not available for interstate adoption
AFTER THE TRIAL PERIOD
After the 10 day trial period is completed Paw Prints Canine will send out all relevant paperwork for your new furbaby via email including the transfer of microchip form.
