About Big Dave
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Big Dave (18.2kgs)
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound
BREED: Kelpie
BREED TRAITS: Kelpies are high energy and highly intelligent being a working breed, so may need to be found a 'job' to make them feel fulfilled. They get bored easily if their brains are not worked, so training is a must. They are very social with adults and children and social with other dogs. They are very loyal but if the instinct is strong they may try to herd your children.
****************************************************************************
ASSETS: Affectionate, eager to please, very active, sweet and playful! He’s a friendly, loyal boy who loves his cuddles!
FAVOURITE THINGS: Dave loves the company of other friendly dogs and loves to play and wrestle with them. He also enjoys any toy that he can chew on, as well as filled kongs and cardboard.
ENDEARING FEATURES: He’s a loving, affectionate boy who is lapping up his new life and loves experiencing new things, like playing fetch with his ball and playing in the waves at the beach. And he’ll happily take all the cuddles you’re willing to give!
OTHER ANIMALS: Dave gets on well with other friendly dogs and loves to play but can be a bit excitable and vocal when first meeting them on his lead. He won’t be suited to a home with cats, chickens or other smaller animals as he is over-focussed on them.
GENERAL INFO: Dave walks quietly on his lead initially but will tug when he sees another dog or person that he wants to meet. He’s a very energetic boy but also knows when it’s time to chill. He really enjoys running alongside his carers on cycles, loves the beach and is really well crate trained. He’s housetrained and will bark when he’s excited at seeing new people/dogs or when someone is at the door. He is protective of his treats and toys and will run away with them if approached by another dog. He’s been doing great with command training in his foster home and knows a few commands already, although he does need some work on his recall. Being the smart cookie he is, further training will be a breeze for him.
ESSENTIALS for Dave:
** Dave could live with full time workers if he gets plenty of exercise and especially if he has another friendly, playful dog to live with.
** He will need plenty of daily exercise, playtime and mental activity. A home that is willing to involve him in daily activities is essential for him.
**Dave would really excel at training and we would love his new owners to give him that experience.
** Dave needs a fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore.
**Dave needs to be allowed inside the home as he loves his human company, and to sleep inside at night.
Dave could live with dog-savvy, gentle older children who will be able to read his signals and engage with him on a daily basis. He would love to live with another friendly, playful dog who has a slightly calmer personality to keep him in check when he gets excited, or at the very least have regular interaction with other dogs in a safe environment.
If Dave sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
