About Lucy
PLEASE NOTE THAT UNFORTUNATELY WE ARE UNABLE TO FLY OUR ANIMALS EITHER WITHIN WA OR INTERSTATE
NAME: Lucy
BEFORE RESCUE: Came to SAFE Esperance from the pound
BREED: Jack Russell x Chihuahua (5.3kg)
BREED TRAITS: Jack Russells are lively, independent and clever. They are trainable but have a mind of their own and if bored can dig and chew. Terriers are devoted to their people, affectionate and love being with them so cannot be left for long periods. . Careful and sensitive socialisation from a young age is a must as they are small dogs with big personalities.
Chihuahuas love to be with their people and are definitely companion dogs that do not like to be left alone, They are sensitive, and can be aloof or wary of strangers and other dogs so early socialisation is very important. Chihuahuas cannot tolerate cold or hot weather so a warm coat in the winter and care re overheating in the summer is needed - they are not outside dogs. They are bright and willful but will learn if you make it fun and although small, have big personalities
*************************************************************************
ASSETS: Easy going, affectionate, eager to please, friendly, outgoing, active, playful and very sweet! She’s a happy little girl who just loves to be loved.
FAVOURITE THINGS: Lucy enjoys playing with stuffed toys and her treat balls. She also enjoys playing with the other dog in her foster home and loves cuddles and belly rubs!
ENDEARING FEATURES: She loves everyone she meets! She’s always happy to see you and adores being the centre of your world.
OTHER ANIMALS: Lucy gets on well with other dogs but can be excitable around them initially. She hasn’t been introduced to any cats or small animals in her foster home but may be able to live with a dog-savvy cat after gentle, with supervised introductions.
GENERAL INFO: Lucy will need training for pretty much everything except toilet training. She plays outside during the day and is crate trained for night-time (inside). She rarely barks and is very curious about the world around her. She’s a clever cookie who learns new things quickly. She would benefit greatly from training classes and would love the interaction with other dogs. She loves to dig and chew so will need to have her busy mind kept active in her new home.
ESSENTIALS for Lucy:
** A loving, active, calm home with someone who can be with her for a good part of the day or can take her with them when they go out.
** She will need daily exercise, playtime and mental activity. A home that is willing to involve her in daily activities is essential for her as she loves to be right where you are.
** Lucy needs a fenced, secure yard with grass and interesting things to sniff and explore.
** Lucy needs to be allowed inside the home when you are there and to sleep inside at night.
** Attendance at dog training classes and continued training into adulthood for her to learn and grow in confidence will be essential for her, along with positive, gentle socialisation and exposure to new experiences.
Lucy could live with dog-savvy, gentle children over 10yrs of age who will be able to read her signals and engage with her on a daily basis but know when she needs her own space. She would enjoy living with another friendly dog or at the very least would love to have regular interaction with other friendly dogs.
If Lucy sounds like the perfect fit for your family, please send an enquiry and we’ll be in touch soon.
