💜💜💜 GOOD DOG RICKY BOBBY💜💜💜

What a delightful dog Ricky Bobby has become! Once socially neglected due to the sudden and unexpected decline in his previous owner’s health, from the tender age of 4 months Ricky Bobby was often left alone for days or even weeks with little interaction. Inevitably his owner realized she would never be able to look after him she surrendered him.
Since Ricky Bobby arrived as a rambunctious hound Surrendered in desperate need of care and attention- he has now undergone a remarkable transformation.
Thriving on our operations manager's 8-acre family farmlet, Ricky Bobby is blossoming into a joyous, friendly, and social companion. His warm and outgoing nature shines, making him a truly special dog who brings happiness wherever he goes.
The Pros:
Ricky has been an absolute joy to have around. He has not made on attempt to jump our rural fences. He is happy to entertain himself while we come to the shelter every day. Apart from chewing the toys he has been given - he hasn't been at all destructive.
Ricky is completely crate trained. He LOVES his crate and will go in voluntarily. One word - "crate" and he flies in - sits and waits to see what happens. If the door closes - he lays down and goes to sleep on cue. He has never barked in his crate (unless he needs to "go" - he will give a little whimper) . He has never soiled his crate.
Ricky has also been interacting with all our dogs - BIG and SMALL - he has never shown an ounce of aggression. He is unexpectedly gentle with the little ones.
As with the children in the home who are dog savvy 6 and 7 year olds - he is surprisingly gentle with them too.
He seems scared of our cats - he hasn't even barked at them. Although the cats are contained - he has had plenty of opportunity to nag at them through the wire - but remains uninterested and prefers to stay away.
Ok so now here are the cons:
Due to the circumstances surrounding his surrender, Ricky Bobby missed out on the chance to learn proper social skills and respect for boundaries. From the tender age of 4 months until his surrender at 8 months, he was left outside, lonely and abandoned, with little interaction or guidance.
One of the habits he developed during this time is a lack of respect for doors—when a door opens, he must get to the other side! We’ve been working on this with training exercises focused on waiting patiently at open doors, and he’s showing definite improvement. However, in a new environment, this behavior may need reinforcement and a bit of patience from his new family.
When Ricky Bobby first arrived, he was so thrilled to have attention that any pats resulted in exuberant, full-body excitement! Interestingly, this behavior has only been with adults—he hasn’t done it with kids. We’ve taught him that he needs to stay calm to earn affection. Instead of overexciting him with fuss, we use slow, massage-like pats that he absolutely adores. He’s improving wonderfully and now enjoys laying quietly with his people, as seen in the photos from his first day out!
But that's about it!
All in all, Ricky Bobby is the epitome of a true rescue story—ready to leave his past behind and step into a brighter future. He’s a lovable, intelligent, and eager-to-please companion who just needs the right family to guide him the rest of the way.
