About Blade
We absolutely love this boy 💙
HOUSEHOLD- Introducing Blade, a long-termer here at the shelter. This handsome boy has come a long way from his first days with us and he continues to surprise staff with his confident, vocal ways. He would best suit a household that has had a decent amount of dog experience and has no children under 13yrs due to his strength, silly excitable moments and aloofness at times. He could live as an outdoor only dog or a indoor/outdoor situation.
ON-GOING TRAINING- He will require on-going training for lead manners, basic obedience and dog socialisation. He can be rather stubborn at times and will need a patient confident owner who can set the ground rules and boundaries to help him learn what he can do and when. He loves his food treats but does not always find them motivating enough and will need a committed owner who can dedicate time to keeping his training sessions engaging. Previous training experience would be preferred.
PLAY/TOYS- Blade has shown minimal interest in toys or games with his handlers but once he is out of the facility we feel his true playstyle will be revealed.
OTHER DOGS- Blade is still learning how to be social with his fellow canines. He is very vocal on initial meetings and will need help from his owners to develop better social skills so that he may enjoy canine companions. For this reason, he may be best rehomed as an only dog but has previously lived with other dogs so a meet and greet is possible if canine companions already exist in the home and are well socialised/tolerant of his behaviours.
At this stage Blade is not suitable for Dog Parks or beaches but if you were hoping to visit these locations we would recommend postponing your trip till he shows more consistent social manners to avoid offending other dogs and improve his recall commands and bond with a new family.
CATS/OTHER ANIMALS- Unfortunately Blade is not suitable to live with feline friends because he finds them very exciting and would definitely cause lots of stress in any cats’ life. We are presuming this would also include pocket pets and chickens etc any smaller creature that promotes preydrive.
CARE/GROOMING- Blade has a nice short coat that will be easy to maintain. A weekly brush, monthly bath and monthly nail clip will keep him looking good. He is not a dog that appreciates a lot of excess handling so a basic care routine should be practiced and rewarded regularly.
EXERCISE/NUTRITION- Blade is currently being fed on an adult diet and has been able to gain and maintain condition easily. He is now trying to loose afew extra kilos and will need an owner who is happy to continue his appropriate diet. A daily exercise routine will help on his weight loss journey and thankfully he adores his walks. Blade can be very strong on a short lead at times but loves running free on a long line and will constantly check in with his handler making sure you are still there.
