About Hawthorn
Meet Hawthorn, a gentle giant of a mouse that will delight you with his friendly nature! This special boy will keep you entertained as he scurries about his cage to sleep in his hammock, dig burrows, and make nests to keep warm in. With his fluffy brindle coat and broad face, Hawthorn is utterly adorable and unique-looking.
Hawthorn is looking for a home where he will be given lots to stimulate his clever mind, and where he will be treated gently. Like most mice, Hawthorn isn't looking for a cuddle, although he is friendly and does approach the cage bars to say hello. The best way into Hawthorn's heart is to give him treats and toys. The fun of knowing him will be in watching as he explores your creative cage set ups and tries new tasty foods.
As a brindle mouse, Hawthorn has genetic obesity. While he is perfectly healthy at this time, keeping him active with a large wheel (16-20cm+ diameter), scatter feeding, and plenty of toys will ensure he stays a little slimmer and thus promote his longterm wellbeing. Most brindle mice live long, happy lives just like their solid-coloured siblings.
To someone so tiny, children can be unintentionally frightening. For this reason, Hawthorn is better suited to a home with teenagers or adults only, but homes with respectful older children could be suitable. If you have cat or dog family members, put thought into how you'll keep them safely away from his cage. As he is an entire male, Hawthorn must be housed alone.
Can you offer Hawthorn a safe, engaging home for the rest of his life (1-2 years)? If so, send us an enquiry and we'll get back to you as soon as possible to make his dreams come true!
Hawthorn will be treated with a parasite preventative prior to adoption. For an additional fee, we can provide his adopter with a suitable cage.
Medical notes
No known pre-existing conditions. As a brindle mouse, Hawthorn has genetic obesity which can be managed with good exercise and nutrition, but never eliminated.
Adoption details
All of our animals are seeking indoor only homes. We do not adopt out any animal to live alone (excluding entire male mice). If you do not have one or more compatible animals of the same species, you must adopt a bonded pair or group.
Once you apply to adopt, we'll talk with you about proper care of the animals you're looking to adopt, discuss any concerns you or we might have, and tell you more about our available animals. To speed up the process, please include as much detail as possible about your situation, other animals, experience with the species you're looking to adopt, and intended housing/diet when you apply. If there's a particular vet clinic you intend to use, please tell us the name (otherwise we can help you locate one that is knowledgable in small animals).
As part of the adoption process we require photos of a complete, suitable set up. We can provide care advice, and suggest contacting us prior to buying any cages or items for your new family members as many sold for small animals are not appropriate. We've also outlined our housing expectations on our social media, but don't be intimidated! We are here to help, not judge.
At the time of adoption, you'll be asked to pay an adoption fee and sign an adoption form. You'll receive an adoption packet including a detailed care guide for the species you've adopted, an adoption certificate, and any relevant veterinary records (proof of vaccination and sterilisation, microchip details, etc).
