About Tully

Best as only dog - dog friendly, needs to settle first
Meet Tully,
About: Tully was once a very nervous, anxious & shy dog when she first came in to us. However, her resilience has shone bright & she has transformed herself into a vibrant, friendly & happy girl. Tully is gentle & smart (despite only knowing 'sit' for now), she shows great potential in learning more. Tully is best suited with an owner who has experience with dog ownership. Tully is a sensitive girl, who is sometimes alert but overall very affectionate & engaging. She would be a great family pet.
Tully is fine to live in any household environment, but one on the quieter side would be ideal. She would be a great choice for active people as she is excited to grow & thrive and is very playful.
Ideal Home: Tully is best suited to live in a standalone house or a farm/acerage, with a medium to large yard & high, secure fencing.
Access inside would be great for Tully, as she loves spending time with her human friends, but will be fine to be outside most of the time too as she is very capable of entertaining herself.
Family: Tully is open to meet kids from 10 years & up. Reason for this is because when Tully first came in she was very scared, nervous & anxious. Whilst she has come such a long way in her confidence, she may display similar behaviours when she is taken into a new home - she may need additional time to settle & older kids will be able to understand this more.
Tully is suitable for people who work full-time hours, as long as they are committed to her social training.
Furry Friends: Tully is best to be the only dog in the home. Tully's dog assessment went really well, she was loose, eager to meet, excited to interact & was a very happy girl. However, when the other dog was 'in her space' we saw her stiffen. With additional socialisation around dogs & more confidence we feel that she would be able to live with another dog, but not until she has settled completely in her new home.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Tully would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of her new owners.
Training & Development: Tully would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. And group classes to ensure that the dog social skills she already has won't go to waste. Tully would also do well with environmental socialisation so that new environments aren't too much for her to handle. Crate training may be worthwhile for Tully, should the transition into a new home be too much for her.
Tully is still learning her name but she does know how to 'sit'. Tully is food motivated, and when she takes a treat that is offered to her, she will always take them gently from you too, so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea. Tully may get excited & jump at the start, but she is very gentle when doing this.
With further training & environmental socialisation Tully could be the type of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café or social setting.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Tully has mid-range energy levels, and would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 20-60mins a day to keep her happy & content. Tully loves toy, especially soft toys. You'll often catch her playing by herself, throwing the toys around for her to fetch herself. Tully also loves playing in water, so a shell pool is a must for this water-loving baby!
Tully walks well on lead with only occasional pulling. She is fine to be walked on either a martingale or harness.
Staff Comments: Tully loves to play in water. When she is super happy she gets the zoomies, too! She will easily entertain & play by herself, often throwing toys in the air & catching them herself. She was initially very shy & nervous, but has grown in so much confidence.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
