Meet Dozer,
About: Dozer is a friendly boy, who is also a very happy boy! Dozer is smart (despite only knowing 'sit' for now) he shows great potential is learning more commands. Dozer is best suited with an owner who has experience with dog ownership. Dozer is a confident boy who can be excitable, boisterous & alert.
Dozer is very adaptable and is fine to live in any household environment. He would also be a great choice for active people as he would love the chance to go on adventures & take in the world around him. Dozer is outgoing & social & would love the chance to explore.
Ideal Home: Dozer is best suited to live in a standalone house or a farm/acerage, with a medium to large yard & high, secure fencing.
Access inside would be great for Dozer so he can be with his new family more often than not, as being around his favourite people make him feel most at ease.
Family: Dozer is open to meet kids from 5 years & up. Reason for this is simply due to his very playful nature. He may accidentally knock smaller kids over. Despite his keen eye for all things play time, he is also very affectionate & loves to engage with his human friends.
Dozer is best suited to someone who is home more often than not, of part-time workers.
Furry Friends: Dozer is best to be the only dog in the home. In saying this, he is a mix of being dog selective/dog social - he is a very adaptable dog that is for sure! But, we feel that until he is settled into a new home be would be best as the only dog in the home. After settling into a new environment we feel that he would be fine to be introduced to living with another dog. During his dog assessment, Dozer was happy to meet, but equally happy to do his own thing too - he doesn't rely on another dog for comfort or confidence.
As we cannot test, we are unsure how Dozer would go living with or meeting cats/pocket pets. This would be up to the discretion of his new owners.
Training & Development: Dozer would benefit from post-adoption training such as training at home to cover basic commands/obedience. And group classes to ensure that the dog social skills he already has won't get stale. He will also be able to learn how to interact with other dogs whilst being excited.
Dozer knows his name and he also knows commands like ‘sit’. Dozer is very serious about training, as you can see by his serious face in his photos. Dozer is food motivated, and when he takes a treat that is offered to him he will often take them gently from you too, so having treats on you during training to mark good behaviour would be an excellent idea. Dozer may get excited & jump at the start, but does settle & once settled he will not jump.
With further training Dozer could be the type of dog that you could take to a dog friendly café or social setting.
We always recommend post-adoption training whether it be at home or with a professional. Training doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be a fun experience for you both, it doesn’t have to take long & is a great way for you to bond with your new pal.
Play: Dozer has mid-range to high energy levels, and would benefit from exercise, play, or walks from 30-60mins a day to keep him happy & healthy. Dozer really likes enrichment toys, such as food/treat puzzles & anything that makes playing interesting (and delicious).
Dozer walks well on lead with minimal pulling only at the start, once the excitement of walking is over he walks like a dream & he is fine to be walked on a martingale or harness.
Staff Comments: Dozer is super sweet & loves to be with his humans. He shows great potential being dog social but may need some time to settle into his new home & a new environment before introducing him to another dog - but this is up to his new owner.

With all animals it’s important to understand that going into a new environment with new people may not be as flawless as we want it to be. It’s important to know that these animals have unknown histories. Most left in the shelter by their owners. The information we receive is from observing the animal’s behaviours & reactions to certain stimuli whilst in our care. Adopted animals can take up to 3 months to properly decompress from post-shelter life & a lot of behaviours & quirks will surface during this time. All that we ask is that their new owners have an open mind & are patient.
So please keep in touch with us after adoption so that we can help you settle your new family member in and address any unexpected behaviours.
