About Bluey
💙 Bluey 💙
HOUSEHOLD- Bluey is a long legged, exuberant young pup that is hard to resist. He is looking for a dog experienced home that has the time and patience to help him settle into daily life where he can be involved in as many family activities as possible both indoors and out. At this stage, he is not suited for younger children due to his boisterous puppy moments but would thrive in a more adult home environment where he can refine his manners.
ON-GOING TRAINING- Bluey loves engaging with his handlers in lower distraction environments and can sit on command as well as come to his name when called. He does not appear to have had much training and can be very excitable in high distraction environments. He does enjoy a good food treat and shows great potential for learning into the future but will require patience and time to build his skills.
PLAY/TOYS- Bluey adores toys and will quite happily play by himself when he thinks no one is around. He engages well with a handler playing fetch (returning the ball sometimes) and enjoys abit of rough and tumble handling when it is offered. He can quickly become over excited during rough play and will need time to learn a clear signal when the game is over.
OTHER DOGS- Bluey has found the facility very overwhelming and he has not been calm enough to socialise easily with many of the dogs in care. He tends to be very vocal and rude on approach but when he has gotten closer he shows keen signs for further interaction. He would be best rehomed as an only dog so that he can decompress and learn proper dog social cues in a calmer environment. At this stage he is not suitable for dog parks or beaches so if you were hoping to visit these places we would recommend postponing your trip till he has had atleast 6mths to settle in and feel comfortable with his recall commands and his bond with his new family. He may never be 100% suitable for dog parks or beaches depending how his canine experiences go outside the shelter environment.
CATS/OTHER ANIMALS- Unfortunately Bluey cannot be rehomed with other small creatures due to his keenness to chase/excitability when they run. He would cause stress to himself and them and that would not be fair.
GROOMING/NUTRITION- Bluey has a nice short coat that will be easy to maintain. Weekly brushing along with monthly bathing and nail clips will keep him looking fine. He is currently being fed 2-3 meals daily on a puppy food diet to help maintain his weight and energy needs. He would be best kept on this diet till around 18mths of age.
EXERCISE/ON LEAD- Bluey has a high-energy requirement and would do well with 1-2 walks/runs daily and games/interaction in the backyard. He can be very strong and erratic on lead when excited and will need some time, training and patience to improve his walking style.
