Gordy is a sensitive dog looking for love, having experienced far too much trauma and upheaval in her young life.
Poor Gordy is convinced that everything and everyone is going to hurt her, but she’s come such a long way since being in care. She now enjoys cuddles and pats, however she won’t instigate them, and will need her new owner to be patient in this regard. Gordy isn’t going to jump in your lap on day 1, she’ll make you work harder for her trust.
She is a dog who thrives on a routine of knowing when to expect food, walks and pats, and knowing that when she’s in her crate she’s safe from the world. Gordy likes to spend her days in her crate near her humans, and her nights are spent in her foster carer’s room on her own bed with pillows and a doona.
Leash walking remains a work in progress, but she is very responsive to treat training once her love for treats overcomes her fear. Gordy would likely appreciate the freedom of a (very!) secure backyard, however, this will need careful supervision in the first instance, as an escapee Gordy would not be caught if she didn’t want to be.
Gordy is toilet-trained and has had zero accidents while in care. She gets along with and is very respectful of her foster sister, and shows signs of being a happy, playful dog when she’s in the company of an enthusiastic leader.
Gordy would likely do best with a confident fur-sibling who can show her play, confidence and love. However, she may also do well with a person or people who are home a lot, who will let her be with them most of the time, and who are committed to training Gordy and being patient with her as she comes out of her shell and learns to trust.
Gordy has come a long way in our care, and she still has a long way to go, but she’s now in a position where her trust and development is best served by finding her forever home, who will establish a routine with Gordy and help overcome her anxiety and fear.
