Opossum is a friendly, long limbed goofball who loves to be around other dogs and his people. He will lean into you for a smooch and an ear rub or climb up next to you on the couch if he is allowed. He is tall with long legs but he is very skinny.
He is currently living with a large relaxed female and an extremely active medium male and he will play all day if anyone is keen so if you are looking for a play companion for your resident dog, Opossum is your man. Being a young dog, he does get over excited and needs to be put in his place occasionally. He will need a dog that stands up for itself as he is the very definition of “an annoying little brother”. He soon backs down if he gets told off.
Opossum is a quick learner and loves to be praised so he has quickly learnt to wait at the back door to be asked inside, sit for his dinner and at roads on his walk and sit and gently take food from your hand, especially at breakfast time when he has strawberries, blueberries and banana.
He has been left at home outside with his two foster siblings during the day when everyone was at work and would love to be allowed inside at night with his own bed to sleep in. He quite likes being tucked in with a blanket on cold nights. He would not be suitable to be left alone for long periods without company but would be fine as an only dog for someone who worked from home or was retired.
Opossum loves going for a walk, obsessed with sniffing everything. He literally bounces from one smell to another. He is just so excited to see and smell everything he can. He is very excited to meet new dogs on his walk and has been very gentle meeting smaller dogs despite his energetic nature.
He loves tug ropes, either with another dog or with his favourite human. He loves finding sticks in the yard and chewing them up. He is learning to drop a ball and quite enjoys chasing it, he loves toys that make a noise.
He enjoys having a good mix of indoor and outdoor time. He loves being outside, sunbaking or investigating especially if someone is out with him. He is best suited for a home where he will be included in activities, adventures, and everyday life as much as possible.
Teenagers or upper primary dog-savvy kids will be good with Opossum. He has not been tested with young children and he can get over excited when playing with toys, as he is only young.
