About Frank
Meet Frank: Your Loving Shadow and Loyal Companion
Frank, a Beagle and Coonhound mix, is on the lookout for his forever home, and he’s ready to fill it with love, companionship, and lots of laughs. Super affectionate and endlessly loyal, Frank will be your shadow, following you everywhere, just to be in your company. He’s a belly rub enthusiast and will flop right onto his back whenever he sees a chance, especially if it means soaking up some love and attention with a good face lick.
Frank’s morning routine includes a good, comfy sleep in to start his day, and he’s gentle and submissive, never one to cause trouble. Frank has only ever shown friendly, submissive behavior toward other dogs regardless of their size. He was living with a smaller beagle and was very submissive to the beagle and learned a lot of social skills off him.
He’s well-trained in the basics like sit and stay, though being a classic hound he is known to bend the rules if there’s an opportunity to get an extra snack. Frank is patient and will patiently wait at the door to be let in or out for toilet breaks etc.
His sunny personality also shines in his love for sunbathing and his well-behaved solo walks. His previous owners mentioned that when walking with other dogs, Frank is difficult to walk as he’s keen to stay close to the other dogs and gets jealous when seeing other dogs on walks; this is why it can be best to walk Frank alone. He is currently living on a farm with his foster carer and walks well with the other two resident dogs. Frank may benefit from doggy school to help him learn to behave around other doggies.
As most hounds do, Frank loves to communicate. He has a charming habit of singing along—especially if it’s time for dinner or a walk. His sounds are quite hilarious and have brought a lot of joy with his aloof personality. He’s recently vaccinated and up-to-date on flea and tick prevention as of October 30th, and every person who’s cared for him mentions how well-behaved and loving he is.
Since coming to the rescue, he has only demonstrated submissive behaviour. He has come into his own playing with the female pointer cross and they are happy playing chase and tussling in the yard. He has been patient and mostly disinterested in the male staffy x. Ideally, he would fit well with a high energy, similar sized female dog. At 18 months old, he is still young enough to learn.
He is toilet trained and since coming into the rescue has taken to crate training and will happily spend the night sleeping in his crate near the other resident crate trained dogs.
Beagles are high activity breeds and need appropriate exercise. Frank will thrive with a twice daily walk with opportunities to work his sniffing nose. He also loves toys with food treats that he can spend time figuring out. A beagle is not an outside dog and Frank would be happiest being part of the family inside. Strong fencing is also required. Left alone and not exercised appropriately, beagles can be destructive. Frank hasn't demonstrated any destructive or anxious behaviour since coming into the rescue.
If you’re looking for a loyal, loving friend who will bring joy to your daily life, Frank would be the perfect match!
