About Shy
🐾 Beautiful Shy 🐾
HOUSEHOLD- This stunning boy is Shy. Unlike his name suggests, Shy is confident most of the time and is looking for a breed experienced home that has the time and energy to put into him. He will require a fully fenced secure yard and would love to be with his people 24/7 so an indoor/outdoor lifestyle would be ideal but not essential. He has not show us any concerning behaviours towards younger children but can be big and boisterous when he gets excited and may knock smaller children over accidently so a meet and greet with the whole family and appropriate supervision would be a must.
EXERCISE/ON LEAD- Being a Siberian Husky Shy has a high-energy requirement. He will require 1-2 walks/runs daily and games in the backyard too. On lead he is generally pretty responsive but can become overstimulated when he sees something he cannot get to but wants. Lead training will take some time, patience and positive rewards. Be prepared for a slow walk at times if there are many trees to smell and wee on because he loves to mark everyone he can!
ON-GOING TRAINING- Shy will require on-going training for basic obedience and dog socialisation. He is very intelligent and once you have his focus he engages well and is keen to learn. Gaining his attention is the hard part and will require some patience and consistency before you see real progress.
PLAY/TOYS- Shy has shown interest in toys and toy-based games offering gentle tugs or small games of fetch. He particularly loves soft and squeaky toys and will even play with these ones by himself. Here in the shelter, some do not last very long before they explode but he loves every moment of playing with them.
OTHER DOGS- Shy has displayed reactive tendencies when excited. This means, that he can become emotionally overwhelmed when unable to meet canine friends out and about and will become vocal from a distance. Once he gets closer, he can be quite playful but will require an experienced hand to help him learn how to react appropriately. He may be better off in an only dog home so time and training can be focused on him. If you have existing canine family members and were interested in this boy then they must be super social, very tolerant and help display the correct doggie manners he needs to gain. For this reason we would be recommending that he is not suitable for dog parks or beaches at this stage and depending how his interactions go in the future he may never be 100% suitable if he finds it all to exciting.
CATS/OTHER ANIMALS- Due to Shy’s keenness to chase smaller creatures we are recommending he be rehomed to a household without cats or other smaller creatures.
CARE/NUTRITION- Due to Shy’s plush double coat, he will need frequent grooming, particularly during seasonal changes. If you cannot do it yourself at home then finding a suitable groomer is a must. He allows all handling quite well and will only improve with a regular care routine. He is currently eating 2 meals daily on a puppy diet that is suitable for him till around 18mths of age. He has shown no signs of food or skin sensitivities at the facility.
