About Kelly
At eight years old, and finally getting to experience being a well loved pet for the very first time, our sweet senior snoot Kelly has decided that a quiet home and life at a slow pace is very much her style.
Kelly loves her walks and is an excellent companion on strolls along trails or through parks, but is easily spooked by buses, trucks, and other dogs - walks on busy streets can overwhelm her (she will freeze or panic and pull to go back in the direction she came), and she struggles to calm down upon arriving back home after stressful encounters with a bit of pacing and panting, this is improving with anti-anxiety medication, but we expect that we will see this behaviour ease as she adjusts to all the excitement of a new home. Although Kelly can be social and sweet meeting new people out on walks, she is wary of them inside her home, and is not a gregarious host preferring to completely avoid guests in favour of seeking out a safe space away from the action.
Kelly’s foster carers describe her as a beautiful quiet soul, and while she is shy, she becomes extremely affectionate once she is comfortable with you and really enjoys her snuggles. When asked about her personality they said, “She has such a sweet temperament and is happy watching you as you do activities around the house. While she is a nervous girl, she will let you know when she is struggling and needs a time out.
Although currently in care with a male greyhound, Kelly prefers the company of her human companions, and isn’t bothered spending time at home on her own, so while she could live with another greyhound she would be fine as a solo dog in her forever home, so long as humans are around more often than not.
Because of her preference for quiet places and generally anxious nature, Kelly would not be suited to apartment or city fringe living - she would thrive in a home with a yard where she could show off her excellent fetching skills! Her favourite toy is a stress ball (fitting), but she also loves to dissect a soft toy, showing her precision at unpicking seams and creating a winter wonderland scene with all the stuffing.
Underneath her striking appearance is a heart of gold and so much love waiting to be given, Kelly hopes that her perfect people will see past the things that are scary in this world and provide her with the secure and loving home she deserves.

Adoption details
Dogs are pack animals and Greyhounds, in particular, are very familiar with being surrounded by other dogs in their racing kennel environment. For this reason, when left alone without people or other dogs for company, some can be prone to separation anxiety which can manifest in destructive and/or noisy behaviour.
As a result we look to rehome dogs into households where they are not left on their own for more than 4 hours per day on a regular basis, without either people or another dog for company. We are happy discuss strategies such as a dog walker or doggy day care. Going to work with you is also a great option
